After the devastating fire that displaced 31 Watertown residents on Friday, the Parent Teacher Organizations (PTOs) at the schools in town leapt into action to collect items to help those affected.
The parent-teacher groups at the town’s three elementary schools, the Middle School and the High school all started collections over the weekend.
“I am beyond overwhelmed with the response we have received to our call for donations!!!” wrote School Committee member Lily Rayman-Read on Facebook. “****A HUGE shout out to all the PTOs and the WHS PTSO for their incredibly hard work on organizing and setting everything up for donations. They have taken the lead on this and are just beyond amazing****”
The groups are collecting gift cards for the families.
“… this is a great way to support families right now as gift cards allow for them to purchase the items they need in a way that give choice,” she wrote.
To donate online, the Lowell School PTO has created a PayPal donation page: https://www.paypal.com/donate/?token=R4cqHSPdy1xpaUyGSaUnbSrsm_N_tSBPkzxVHMgaJCBYEgpqlAIqfwZe0677L0PgM45teG&country.x=US&locale.x=US
UPDATE: The Watertown Housing Authority will no longer accept clothing.
Other items will be collected at Watertown Middle School, 68 Waverley Avenue, too. Here are the guidelines:
- We will be creating some “grab bags” with toiletry items and necessities. Deodorant, toothpaste/brushes, hair items, cell phone chargers, nail files, shampoo/conditioner (smaller bottles please) would be really helpful to stock the bags.
- We cannot accept used bedding/furniture or large items at this time. Small electronics like hair dryers, kitchen appliances, or other small appliances are ok if in new/like new condition only.
I have clothes that I would like to drop off that r in A-1 condition for females.
Please PM me on FB……Marilyn Abcunas Donahe with drop off times.
Marilyn, I will pass on your note because I am not the people organizing the drive will see this.
