The following information was provided by the Watertown Police Department.
Arrests
Oct. 21, 12:27 p.m.: An officer in Watertown Square spotted a vehicle pulled-over under a no parking sign. The motor was running and the driver’s appeared to be in a reclined position. The officer went to check on the man’s wellbeing, and it took a couple minutes to awaken him. The man showed signs of intoxication, including an odor of alcohol on his breath, glassy and bloodshot eyes, and he had vomit on the front of his clothing. The man failed field sobriety tests. The 20-year-old Worcester man was arrested on a charge of driving under the influence of alcohol.
Oct 22, 5:36 p.m.: A vehicle was seen stopped on Arlington Street and was blocking the northbound traffic. Drivers behind the vehicle were honking their horns. An officer approached the vehicle and the driver showed signs of intoxication. She had an odor of alcohol on her breath, and her eyes were glassy and bloodshot. She also appeared confused by the officer’s questions. She failed field sobriety tests. The 42-year-old Cambridge woman was arrested on a charge of driving under the influence of alcohol.
Oct. 25, 11:12 a.m.: Police were alerted by Middlesex County Probation that a man had violated the conditions of his probation. He has a GPS device, and was located in Newton. Watertown Police and Newton Police located him, and took him into custody. The 30-year-old Newton man as arrested for the probation violation.
Oct. 27, 1:35 a.m.: A vehicle was seen closely following a vehicle in front of it on North Beacon Street. An officer followed and noted that the driver continued to tailgate the vehicle, and slamming on the brakes. The vehicle was pulled over and when police spoke to the driver they found he has a suspended license. The 32-year-old Watertown man was arrested on the charge of driving with a suspended license, and was cited for following too close.
Oct. 27, 1:41 a.m.: A driver struck a parked vehicle on Orchard Street. Police arrived and spoke to the driver, who had a strong odor of alcohol on his breath, and had glassy and bloodshot eyes. When asked if he had consumed any alcohol, the man said he had 2-3 beers. The 38-year-old Malden man failed field sobriety tests, and was arrested on a charge of driving under the influence of alcohol, and was cited for marked lanes violation.
Oct. 27, 7:42 p.m.: An officer patrolling near the Watertown Mall spotted a woman crouching down in the area behind Best Buy. Police checked on the woman, and while speaking with her found out that she had a warrant for her arrest. She was taken into custody, and while booking her police found a powder believed to be heroin, a crystalline substance believed to be crystal meth, and some Xanax pills for which she did not have a prescription. The 20-year-old Truro woman was arrested on the warrant from Quincy District Court for a threat to commit a crime, assault and assault and battery. She was also charged with possession of a Class A substance, possession of a Class B substance and possession of a Class E substance.
Incidents
Oct. 21, 8:59 p.m.: A driver noticed smoking coming from her 2000 Volkswagen Beetle, and pulled over on Spring Street, near Main Street. Smoke was coming from the hood, and everyone got out of the car. The Watertown Fire Department arrived and put out the fire. The vehicle had to be towed away because it was not operational.
Oct. 22, 2 p.m.: Police received a call from the UPS facility on Arlington Street about a suspicious situation. An elderly man came to ship a package to Georgia, and the worker sensed something might be wrong. After looking more into it, an undisclosed amount of cash was found in an envelope inside the package. Police spoke with the man, who said he was sending it to someone who had called claiming to be a law enforcement official from Georgia. The man was told his daughter was in trouble and that he had to send money to help her. The money was recovered and given back to the man, and police have been in touch with the man and his family.
Oct. 24, 8:12 p.m.: A Warren Street resident received a call from someone who said they were from the U.S. Marshals. The person asked the resident to confirm her social security number, address, age and phone number. She was told to withdraw all her money and wait to be given an address to send the money. The woman told her family, and they realized it was a scam. They are monitoring her Social Security Number and financial information.
Oct. 25, 8:07 a.m.: A Mt. Auburn Street resident told police that a package containing twist ties had been taken from her home on Oct. 24. She said it was the second time a package had been taken. Four months ago a package with $70 worth of pet products was taken.
Oct. 27, 12:32 p.m.: A package was reported stolen from a home on Sycamore Street. It contained athletic equipment worth $15. It was taken on Oct. 25 between 4 and 10 p.m.
