The following information was provided by the Watertown Police Department.
Arrests
Aug. 19, 11:02 p.m.: An officer patrolling on School Street ran a query of a plate of a nearby vehicle and found that the registered owner had a warrant for her arrest. The vehicle was pulled over and the officer confirmed the owner was driving. The 38-year-old Roslindale resident was arrested on the warrant from Suffolk County Juvenile Court for failure to send a child to school.
Aug. 23, 2:39 a.m.: An officer at CVS saw a man who police knew was wanted on an arrest warrant. The 30-year-old Waltham man was arrested on the warrant from Waltham District Court for probation violation.
Aug. 24, 4:42 p.m.: An officer spotted a vehicle make a turn from Mt. Auburn Street to Arsenal Street and wound up going the wrong way down Arsenal. When the vehicle was stopped the officer noticed signs of intoxication on the driver, including alcohol coming from his breath. The driver failed four field sobriety tests, and the officer found he had a previous OUI conviction. The 54-year-old Watertown man was arrested on the charge of driving under the influence of alcohol, a second offense.
Incidents
Aug. 19, 4:29 p.m.: A bicycle was taken from a porch of an Oliver Street home. The bike had a black saddle bag on the left side, and was taken sometime overnight. Later on the 20th, an officer discovered the bike left in the Whitney Hill Woods, above Victory Field. The bike was undamaged and police returned it to the owner. However, the owner then reported that her car had been stolen. Police believe the keys to the 2002 Honda Civic had been left in the saddle bag. It was taken sometime between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. on the 20th. The car was reported stolen, and Cambridge Police found it in their city. The vehicle was returned undamaged.
Aug. 20 8:07 p.m.: A bag of lawn seed was taken from the front porch of a Heather Road home. The homeowner had a doorbell camera which showed someone take the bag at 12:16 a.m. on the 20th. The suspect is described as an Asian male, 50-60 years old, who drove a silver sedan. Footage showed the man walk up to the porch, look around, take the seeds and driving away.
Aug. 21, 4:54 p.m.: A bicycle was taken from the bike rack in front of the building on Galen Street right at the Watertown Square intersection. It had been locked to the rack at 5:30 a.m. that day and when the owner returned at 3:40 p.m. the bike and the lock were gone. It is a red Trek with aluminum pedals worth $600.
Aug. 23, 7:35 a.m.: A vehicle was vandalized when it was parked on the street on Philip Darch Road. Sometime over night, the four tires of a 2018 Ford pickup were punctured. The owner reported that each tire was worth $400.
Aug. 24, 12:37 a.m.: A GMC Sierra pickup was seen going at a very high rate of speed on Main Street. Speeds were estimated as high as 70 mph. The driver lost control and struck a concrete wall of a building on the 300 block of Main Street, and then struck a concrete post in front of Ricci’s Liquors. The pickup rolled over onto its roof and would up in the westbound lane of Main Street. The driver sustained non-life threatening injuries and was taken to hospital. Police found he was intoxicated. The 24-year-old Waltham man was summonsed to Waltham District Court for driving under the influence of alcohol, negligent operation of a motor vehicle, speeding and marked lanes violation. Aug. 24, 8:19 a.m.: Someone carved messages into the concrete of a pillar outside the Central Fire Station on Main Street. The carvings included letters, numbers and a marijuana leaf. The damage was estimated between $200 and $300.
Aug. 24, 4:59 p.m.: Fire and Police personnel responded a fire on Pilgrim Road. When they arrived, the 10 occupants of the home were outside, uninjured, and smoke could be seen coming from the garage. The fire was extinguished by firefighters. It appears the fire started when the homeowner was using a flame propelled weed killer and it ignited something in the wall of the garage. There was also smoke damage to the attic and a bedroom.
Aug. 25, 9:48 p.m.: A man walked into the CVS on Mt. Auburn Street and took paper towels, toilet paper and other items off the shelf, then left the store without paying. The items were worth a total of $37. The man was a frequent customer of the store, but the manager did not know his name. After looking at security video, police identified the man. They went to his home and he admitted to taking the items. The 56-year-old Watertown man was summonsed to Waltham District Court on a charge of shoplifting, a third offense.
