The following information was provided by the Watertown Police Department.
Arrests
Aug. 14, 11:14 p.m.: An officer in the area of Main and Oakland streets saw a vehicle in which the driver was seen slumped at the wheel and appeared to be either asleep or unconscious. When they woke the woman, police checked her record and found that she had a warrant for her arrest. The 26-year-old Boston woman was arrested on the warrant from Wrentham District Court for shoplifting.
Aug. 16, 9:46 a.m.: Store security at Marshalls spotted a man known who they recognized as having been trespassed from the store within the last year. Within minutes of being in the store, security spotted the man taking items and put them in his backpack. He was stopped and found with T-shirts, a wallet, undershirts, boxers and toiletries worth a total of $180.88. The 54-year-old Boston man was arrested on a charge of shoplifting and was trespassed from the store.
Incidents
Aug. 12, 4:25 p.m.: A package went missing from a Coolidge Avenue residence. It contained an iPhone X and was confirmed delivered by UPS. It was delivered at 10:15 a.m. and someone signed for it, but the resident could not find it. Police are working with UPS to investigate.
Aug. 13, 9:58 a.m.: Staff from the Recreation Department reported some of their equipment used for the summer program had been damaged. A table and five chairs that had been chained to a fence at Bemis Park were pulled off and damaged.
Aug. 13, 4:39 p.m.: A traffic light was struck by a motor vehicle at the corner of Mt. Auburn and Arlington streets. A witness said the vehicle as a tractor trailer, and it left the scene of the damage. The damage was estimated between $50 and $100.
Aug. 13, 7:21 p.m.: A Templeton Parkway resident reported that someone broke into her car and took her purse. The vehicle was parked on the street between 4 p.m. and 5 p.m. when it was broken into. The purse contained a driver’s license, credit cards, an iPhone and $50 in cash.
Aug. 14, 11:29 a.m.: A home under construction on Cypress Street was broken into and damaged inside. About $8,000 of damage was done to drywall and plaster inside. The general contractor told police that the firm had worked with multiple subcontractors, one of which may have done it because of a disagreement over payments.
Aug. 15, 4:38 a.m.: A Common Street resident left an envelope in the door to pay for a newspaper subscription in July. Later, he learned that someone had taken the check, altered from $51.50 to $2,937 and then deposited using a cellphone app. Police are working with the bank to try to identify a suspect.
Aug. 15, 6:38 p.m.: A man was seen taking items from Working Gear at the Watertown Mall and leave without paying. He took two chef’s shirts, put them in a backpack and are worth a total of $38. The suspect was described as an African-American male in his 30s with a slim build wearing a white shirt, black pants and wore a backpack.
Aug. 16, 9:29 a.m.: A North Beacon Street resident had her bicycle stolen. The Frontier 8-speed adult bike had been left in her garage between Aug. 14 and 16. The resident said at times during that period the garage door had been left open.
Aug. 17, 6:01 p.m.: A backpack containing valuables was taken from the back steps of a home on Townly Road. The resident reported the backpack contained an iPhone, $800 in cash, a passport and a debit card inside a ziplock bag. The owner said he may have left it out on the steps overnight.
