The following announcement was provided by John Gannon’s Campaign:
Watertown Zoning Board member and former Watertown Town Attorney John Gannon announced his run for Town Councilor At Large.
Running for one of four seats, he said, “I grew up in Watertown and have lived here all my life. My father worked nights at the post office and my mother was a homemaker. I understand how much importance our quality of life in Watertown plays in the lives of children and their families, from our public schools and libraries to our senior centers. As a homeowner and taxpayer, I know how important smart growth is to this town, and I couldn’t be more personally invested. But as a municipal attorney who has fought for hundreds of cities and towns across the Commonwealth to strengthen their communities, from preserving neighborhoods and improving public schools, to housing and climate change, I want to bring my professional experience to the Town Council to work for everyone in Watertown.”
John Gannon works as an attorney for the Division of Local Services for the MA Department of Revenue, advising all cities and towns in Massachusetts on issues related to state law, budgets, and regulation. In addition to serving as Watertown’s attorney, he previously served as City Solicitor in Somerville as well as in private practice as a municipal attorney. He has worked as an elections attorney to stop voter suppression and protect voting rights, and has assisted with multiple recounts, including working on the recount in Florida in 2000. He is a certified municipal property assessor and a graduate of Watertown High School, Brown University, and Suffolk Law School. He is the proud father of 16-year-old Will.
“This campaign is about the people of Watertown,” he said. “I was born and raised here, and I chose to stay here. But I want to make sure that everyone who lives here, whether they’re new neighbors and friends or people who have lived here all their lives, live in a town that works for them. As your town councilor, I’ll make sure you can count on Watertown.”
