Police Log: Man Caught Stealing Clothes & Steaks, Two Scams Reported

The following information was provided by the Watertown Police Department.

Arrests

May 20, 4:52 p.m.: Police were called to Arsenal Street for a motor vehicle accident near the entrance to the Arsenal Mall. One car had stopped at the light, and a second ran into the rear of the stopped vehicle. When police spoke to the drivers, and the one that rear ended the other showed signs of being intoxicated, including having an odor of alcohol on her breath and was unsteady on her feet. She admitted to consuming alcohol before driving and failed four of five field sobriety tests. The 51-year-old Ashland resident was arrested on a charge of driving under the influence of alcohol and was cited for following too close.

May 23, 9:06 p.m.: A man went into Target and was seen placing items into Pampers diaper bag, including water, a knit hat and sleepwear. Then he went to the grocery section and put four packages of sirloin steak into the bag. He attempted to leave without paying, and was stopped with $129.99. The 31-year-old Waltham man was arrested on a charge of shoplifting.

May 24, 3:50 p.m.: Police were called to the MBTA’s Watertown Yard for a man who was unresponsive on a bus. Officers woke the man, he resisted attempts by police to escort him off the bus. He was taken into custody and when police tried to put him in the police car he used his legs to prevent the door from closing. Eventually, police got him the vehicle. The 31-year-old Fitchburg man was arrested on a charge of disorderly conduct, a subsequent offense.

May 24, 7:52 p.m.: A resident of Westland Road reported that a man was in his car for about 30 minutes, and he appeared to be urinating in plastic bottle. Police arrived and found the man sitting in his vehicle with the motor running. Police asked him to turn the motor off four times before he complied. The man said hw was waiting for somebody. The man showed signs of impairment, including an odor of alcohol on his breath. The man admitted to consuming alcohol before driving and failed field sobriety tests. The 43-year-old Belmont man was arrested on a charge of driving under the influence of alcohol.

Incidents

May 20, 7:57 a.m.: A wheel and tire were stolen off of a car on School Street, and a milk crate was left under the car. The vehicle was a 2016 Honda Accord, which had been parked on the street in front of the owner’s house. The tire and wheel are worth $400.

May 22, 1 p.m.: A resident reported a case of online fraud to the police. The bank contacted the resident about suspicious activity on a credit card, and the resident found one for $134.96 and another for $510.52 made on a website called fashionnove.com. The items were shipped to an address in Waltham. Police are investigating.

May 24, 3:22 p.m.: A Repton Place resident reported a case of credit card fraud. The card was used to purchase a piece of art for $1,039.38 from an online store. It was shipped to a Tampa, Fla., address. Police are investigating.
