For the first time in many years, the Watertown Police Department will have a four-legged crime fighter on its roster.
Police Chief Michael Lawn shared the following comment on the Watertown Police Facebook page:
Chief Lawn is excited to introduce our newest officer to the community. Although he does not have a name yet, he is a beautiful 11-month-old German Shepard with Dutch roots. After an extensive training program, our German Shepard will be patrolling Watertown with his handler, Officer Andrew Civetti. This is an exciting day for the Watertown Police; our K-9 program has been on hiatus for approximately 25 years and we are thrilled to be bringing it back!
Please help the WPD in naming our police dog. Submit name suggestions via Facebook, we will announce his name next week. via Watertown Police Department’s Facebook Page
Names should be submitted on the Watertown Police Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/WatertownPoliceDepartment
The dog should be called Chuckie in honor of former and late Watertown Police Officer Chuckie Lenaghan, who patrolled with a police dog for years
I’m glad to see WPD is getting a canine officer. I was a dispatcher in the late 80s and Watertown had three of them working different times for our use and surrounding commuties called us to see if we had a dog available and we were able to assist them. I’m not on Facebook, but following the Watertown Strong theme, I think his name should be Stark, the German word for strong.
I’m not on Facebook, but if I were, I would suggest the name Watson. It’s the name of a famous sleuth’s assistant (Doctor Watson working with Sherlock Holmes), and it incorporates part of the town name.
