The following information was provided by the Watertown Police Department.
Arrest
Dec. 20, 8:10 p.m.: An officer driving on the one-way section of Riverside Street spotted a vehicle coming at him at a high rate of speed. The police cruiser swerved to avoid being hit by the vehicle. He turned around and stopped the vehicle. When the officer spoke to the driver, the man showed signs of being impaired, including a strong odor of alcohol on his breath. The driver admitted to drinking alcohol before driving. He failed four field sobriety tests. The 36-year-old Watertown man was arrested on a charge of driving under the influence of alcohol, and was cited for speeding and a one way street violation.
Incidents
Dec. 17, 7:14 p.m.: A Riverside Street resident reported that a bicycle had been stolen off his front porch. A video camera got footage showing a man in dark colored clothing, with white shoes and a drawstring backpack with red and yellow lettering on it. The bike was a blue Schwinn worth about $200.
Dec. 18, 5:07 p.m.: A resident reported that he had been scammed by an online ticket seller. The man purchased a pair of tickets for $50 each to a concert. He sent $100 on an online banking application and received two tickets. He went to the concert in New York City, but when security scanned the ticket it showed it was not authentic. The man was not able to go to the concert, and when he tried to contact the seller he could not reach the person.
Dec. 19, 8:09 p.m.: A Cypress Street resident heard a loud noise and came out to find that someone broke a window on her car and stole several items. A man nearby saw the suspect with a purse in his hand and chased him, but the suspect got away on a black mountain bike. The suspect was described as a white male, 25 to 30 years old, 5-foot-8, wearing a grey and blue sweatshirt, grey pants, a grey baseball hat, and had a red and black backpack. The items taken from the vehicle included a purse, a wallet containing credit cards, sunglasses, prescription glasses, and keys. Police searched the area but could not find the suspect.
Dec. 20, 8:14 p.m.: A package was stolen off the front steps of a home on Marshall Street. A security camera got an image showing a man, between 5-8 and 5-11 in height, wearing dark pants, a dark jacket with the hood over his head, and a black scarf over his face. He was last seen running toward Spring Street. Police are trying to identify the man. The package contained dog food, dog treats and hair products, worth a total of $352.13.
