The post season begins this week for the streaking Watertown field hockey team, which seeks an eighth straight State Championship.
Coach Eileen Donahue’s squad has not been beaten in 155 games and set a new national record. The streak includes a perfect 17-0 in 2015.
Top seeded Watertown will have a first round bye, and then hosts with winner of the game between eight-seed Wilmington (10-6-2) and nine-seed Wayland (8-5-3). The MIAA Div. 2 North Section semifinal on Friday, Nov. 6 at 2:30 p.m. at Victory Field.
The game will be the only chance to catch the Raiders at home during the postseason.
Also on Watertown’s side of the bracket are No. 4 seed Gloucester (113-1), No. 5 Weston (12-3-3) and No. 12 Tewksbury (7-10-1). The second seed in the North is Manchester-Essex (15-1-2) and Triton (14-3-2) is the third seed.
Looking down the road, the state semifinal will be played at Canton High School (day and time to be announced) and the state final will be played at WPI in Worcester on Saturday, Nov. 21.
Football
The Raiders pulled a first round upset on Friday by beating Lynnfield 25-17, and this week, they take on another top team in the Section Semifinal.
Watertown travels to face second-seeded North Reading on Friday, Nov. 6 at 7 p.m. North Reading was the lone higher seed to win in the upset riddled MIAA Div. 4 North Section bracket. They beat Ipswich 41-3.
Win or lose, Watertown could have a rematch with Middlesex League foe Stoneham the following week.
Girls’ Soccer
The Raiders qualified for the MIAA Div. 3 North Section girls soccer tournament by finishing .500 against teams in the division.
The Raiders (2-16) received the 16th seed and travel to play top-seeded Hamilton-Wenham (17-0-1) on Thursday at 2 p.m. The winner takes on the victor in the Newburyport-Lynnfield game.
