Police investigated three home break ins on Tuesday night, which are the latest in a spate of home burglaries in Watertown.
Two break ins occurred on Winsor Avenue and one on School Street. In these cases, like previous ones, no one was home at the time of the break in. All of the break ins occurred in the neighborhoods around the Oakley Country Club.
Watertown Police Lt. James O’Connor said that detectives are investigating the break ins, and are compiling a list of missing items from Tuesday’s break ins. Police do not have any suspects, he added. It is not clear whether or not the incidents on different days are linked.
Over the past several weeks, five homes have been broken into and another attempted break in occurred. On two occasions were multiple break ins on the same day.
On Nov. 25, the adult son of the owners of a Standish Road home discovered someone had broken into the home and ransacked the top floor of the home, O’Connor said. He had received a call from the alarm company on Nov. 23, but did not think it was serious so he cancelled the alarm. When he checked on the house on the 25th he found the home had been broken into. It appears someone got into the home through a small rear window.
On Nov. 17, two homes were broken into. Residents of an Adams Avenue home called Police to report their home had been broken into. The home was locked when the break in occurred. The same evening, residents of a home on Richards Road discovered their home had been burgled. They found the door ajar and the interior of the home had been disturbed, O’Connor said.
On Sept. 27, two homes were broken into and someone attempted to break into a third. The break ins were on Barnard Avenue and Common Street, and the attempted break in was on Lovell Road.
Anyone who saw anything suspicious in the areas of the break ins should call Watertown Police at 617-972-6500.
What’s even worse than the break-in’s and stolen property is the fact that if caught the punishment would not come close to the crime itself. People go out to work every day and others who don’t simply steal their belongings. A recent candidate for District Attorney stated that people who do this should not go to jail since it’s too harsh a penalty. Some other liberal minded politicians agree with her but she lost the election as should they.
I agree that the criminals will get off because our illustrious legal reps believe they should not have to put in serious time if the level of crime is not above a certain dollar amount, which was lowered recently for shoplifting too. We have to enter our homes not knowing who was in there, if they were on drugs, and forever feel threatened and uncomfortable in our own homes after a break in. Nice system for the criminals!
