Watertown senior quarterback Nick McDermott and sophomore running back Shakel Inniss each scored touchdowns, but the Raiders’ comeback effort fell short against Wakefield Friday night.
Watertown High School’s 21-13 loss at Victory Field drops the Raiders to 1-6 on the year, and into an unfamiliar position for the team under coach John Cacace. The Raiders look like they will miss the MIAA Div. 5 North tournament for the first time in several years, and — with four games remaining — will have a losing record.
The Boston Globe’s High School Football Power Rankings has Watertown ranked 10th in Div. 5 North, with the top eight making the tournament. If the Raiders miss the tourney, they will still have three more games before the Thanksgiving Game against Belmont. The team would face other non-playoff teams, or those eliminated.
Boys Soccer Tourney Bound
A win on senior night cliched a berth in the MIAA boy’s soccer tournament for Watertown High School’s boys soccer team.
Junior goalie Devon Breen made key saves down the stretch to preserve the 3-2 win over Wakefield, according to the Boston Globe report.
Watertown (9-5) will seek another deep tourney run, after reaching the state semifinals last season.
