Editor:

Brett Kavanaugh is a sure-fire vote to gut Roe, criminalize abortion, and punish women. Kavanaugh’s record has shown time and again that he does not respect the rights of women to determine what is best for themselves and their families.

To protect reproductive everywhere, it is imperative that Kavanaugh is not confirmed to the Supreme Court.

    • Can you tell me why the Republicans will not release thousands of documents related to his record? That is a much more relevant question.

      • Fist, previous Presidents have utilized the power of Executive Privilege on several occasions to withhold information (i.e. documents) from Congress and America. Second, Roe v. Wade is a SC decision that never should have been heard by SC Justices. As there is no mention for the Federal Government to, in any form, provide “legal abortion” in the Articles of the Constitution; therefore the 10th Amendment solely places this power in the hands of each State, and if the State does not have governing laws it resides in the power of the individual. That is the beauty and purpose of the Republic system of government we live in.

        • The most notorious of Presidents to assert Executive Privilege would be Richard Nixon, who used it to hide the criminal activity of his administration from the public. This President has even less of a sense of decency or morality.

Deacon, your Constitutional logic is twisted beyond repair. The right to an abortion is based on the legal concept of the right to privacy, which as you might remind me, is not mentioned in the Constitution. However, to paraphrase Thomas Jefferson, we no longer wear knee breeches, tri-corner hats, nor do we carry muskets. The law and jurisprudence must keep up with the progress of man.

The founders never intended our founding documents to be a straight jacket, but rather a foundation to build the house of the nation upon. I doubt that they would see this issue as narrowly as you do.

  1. Republican or Democrat, should not matter, documents should be readily available to all regardless of who is in power at the time. Transparency is necessary for a good Democracy. I can understand if there was some sensitive information in some of the documents however, this information could be retracted. I would think that sensitive information would be a minority of documents in the case of a Supreme Court Justice candidate.
