The following information was provided by the Watertown Police Department.
Arrests
Aug. 6, 5:57 p.m.: A man was spotted in Target taking items and putting them in a backpack. Before leaving he grabbed a bike and tried to roll it out of the store without paying for it, or for the items in his backpack. Security stopped him and found men’s clothing and two prepaid cellphones. The items were worth a combined $553.87. While investigating, security discovered the man had taken items from the store on July 22, but they were unable to stop him. That day he took $349.98 in items. The 36-year-old Boston man was arrested on two counts of shoplifting by asportation, a second offense.
Aug. 8, 9:16 a.m.: An officer in the area of Robert Ford Road spotted a man who was known to be wanted on an outstanding warrant. Police stopped the 36-year-old Billerica man and arrested him on two warrants from Cambridge District Court.
Aug. 10, 12:30 a.m.: Police came upon a woman Mt. Auburn Street near Baptist Walk and while speaking with her they discovered she had two outside arrest warrants. The 32-year-old Marston Mills woman was arrested on the warrant from Wareham District Court for driving under the influence of alcohol, driving with a suspended license, and driving an uninsured vehicle.
Aug. 11, 12:23 a.m.: While patrolling on Arsenal Street near Beechwood Avenue, an officer observed a vehicle stopped at the traffic light take off so fast that the tires screeched. The vehicle got up to 55 mph. The officer caught up with the vehicle and stopped it by Patten Street. While speaking with the driver the officer spotted signs of impairment, including glassy and bloodshot eyes, and an odor of alcohol. The man apologized for they way he was driving. The driver failed five field sobriety tests. While searching the vehicle, police found a 45 caliber Smith & Wesson pistol that had a magazine loaded and a round in the chamber. The man had a license for the weapon. Both the weapon and the firearms license were seized by police. The 28-year-old Waltham man was arrested on charges of driving under the influence of alcohol, carrying a firearm while intoxicated, improper operation of a motor vehicle, speeding, and failing to use care while starting. The firearm was licensed in Natick.
Incidents
Aug. 7, 3:22 p.m.: A Harnden Avenue resident reported that his son’s bicycle had been stolen. The bike was left in the side yard for just five minutes at about 2:45 p.m. before it was taken. They looked around the neighborhood for the bicycle but could not find it. The black and grey Specialized mountain bike was worth $500.
Aug. 7, 6:24 p.m.: A Chester Street resident called police to report the person had been the victim of a computer scam. The 78-year-old man received a call from a person saying he was a Microsoft employee from Dallas and told him that his antivirus software had been compromised and the employee was calling to fix it. The caller said he needed access to the computer to fix it. The owner let him have access but later discovered his credit card information was on the computer and someone had used to make $3,000 in charges. The man reported the charges to the bank.
Aug. 8, 8:25 a.m.: A worker from a construction site on Mt. Auburn Street reported that tools had been stolen sometime between Aug. 7 at 9 a.m. and Aug. 8 at 7 a.m. The missing items include two power saws, two sawzalls and three framing guns. The missing tools were taken from a secured lockbox and there were no signs of forced entry. Police are investigating.
Aug. 10, 10:58 a.m.: A man took a shared Uber from Watertown to Medford and when he got out he realized his wallet was gone. The wallet contained credit cards and $275 in cash. He cancelled his credit cards, but later he received a call from Bank of America that someone attempted to use a credit card twice at Target in Dorchester for charges of $849 and $456.86. Police are trying to get security footage from Target.
Aug. 12, 4:56 p.m.: A man parked his bicycle in a rack outside a Pleasant Street apartment building at noon on Aug. 2. When he went out on Aug. 3 at 3 p.m. he found his bike had been stolen. The bike was a Giant street bike worth $750.
