Arrest
July 30, 12:16 p.m.: An employee of Newlywed Foods on Grove Street got upset when he was told that he would have to change shifts. During the meeting with human resources when he was told the news, the man became upset, raised his voice and continued to yell at the company officials. The officials decided to fire the man, who got more upset. He threatened to harm an employee and to damage the building. When he walked out of the building he took out a box cutter and began slicing into packages waiting to be shipped. He damaged about 20 in all. He also struck an employee in the chest and motioned at him with the box cutter. The 27-year-old Watertown man was arrested on charges of assault with a dangerous weapon, assault and battery, threatening to commit a crime, and malicious destruction of property over $1,200.
July 31, 8:58 p.m.: Police were called to Church Street for an unwanted person at a home. Officers discovered the unwanted man had two outstanding warrants. The 31-year-old Watertown man was arrested on two warrants out of Brockton District Court for violating probation.
Aug. 2, 4:18 p.m.: An officer watching traffic on Waltham Street near Stanley Street spotted a vehicle with an expired inspection sticker. After pulling the vehicle over, the officer discovered the driver had a suspended driver’s license and an outstanding warrant. The 44-year-old Watertown woman was arrested on a charge of driving with a suspended license and a default warrant from Waltham District Court.
Aug. 3, 2:14 a.m.: A pair of officers working detail at the site of the oil spill on Main Street spotted a vehicle on the side of the road with a traffic cone lodged under the front end. The officers spoke to the woman behind the wheel, who showed signs of intoxication, including a strong odor of alcohol. She was the only person in the vehicle. They also saw front-end damage consistent with an accident. The woman admitted to drinking alcohol before driving. She failed four field sobriety tests. Police searched the area for signs of an accident and alerted police in nearby communities to be looking out for a hit and run accident, but no evidence could be found. The 37-year-old Waltham woman was arrested on charges of driving under the influence of alcohol and driving without her license in her possession.
Aug 5, 1:14 a.m.: Watertown Police were alerted by Newton Police about an erratic driver coming off the Mass. Pike and heading into Watertown on Galen Street. Officers located the vehicle in Watertown Square and stopped it on Mt. Auburn Street by Patten Street. The driver showed signs of impairment, and admitted to drinking alcohol before driving. The man said he was coming from Framingham. He failed a field sobriety test. Police also discovered he did not have a driver’s license. The 51-year-old Watertown man was arrested on charges of driving under the influence of alcohol and unlicensed driving.
Aug. 5, 7:19 p.m.: Police were called to Robert Ford Road for a disturbance, which was quelled. While speaking with those involved, they discovered one man had two outstanding warrants. The 67-year-old Watertown man was arrested on a warrant from Waltham District Court for traffic offenses, and one from Haverhill District Court for assault and battery.
Incidents
July 30, 9 p.m.: A bicycle was stolen from the front porch of a home on Laurel Street. The bike was placed there at 8 p.m. the previous night and was gone the next morning. The bike was a Univega Viva worth $250.
July 31, 5:45 p.m.: A portable grill was taken from a home on Alden Road. The tabletop grill had been left in the yard. The Brinkmann grill is worth $100.
July 31, 8:10 p.m.: The stair climbing apparatus at Moxley Field was tagged with spray paint. Someone sprayed vulgar drawings and language on the side of the stairs.
Aug. 1, 6:20 p.m.: A resident reported that he accidentally left his credit card at McDonald’s on California Street in Newton. He checked his account and found the card had been used three times to purchase cigarettes at Stop & Shop on Watertown Street. The total charges were $25. Police are looking for security footage from the store.
Aug. 5, 8:19 a.m.: A bicycle was stolen on July 24. The owner locked the black Cannondale mountain bike up at the MBTA’s Watertown Yard on Galen Street at 7 a.m. and when he returned that after work he found the bike was gone and someone had tampered with the locking mechanism. The bike had been purchased for $1,300.
