Watertown’s Sean Callahan was named head coach of Framingham State’s baseball team.
Framingham State named Watertown native and FSU alum Sean Callahan its new head baseball coach.
Callahan moves to Framingham after three years working as an assistant coach, most recently at Stonehill College. He also worked as the hitting and catching coach at UMass-Boston.
“We are thrilled to welcome Sean back to Framingham State to lead the baseball program,” said Framingham State Athletic Director Tom Kelley in the announcement. “Sean brings a wealth of baseball knowledge and as a former Ram, he is familiar with the University, the baseball program, and the league. We are looking forward to Sean guiding the program into a new era.”
While at Stonehill, Callahan was responsible for scouting opponents, implementing the off-season strength and conditioning program, and recruiting.
During his time at UMass Boston Callahan helped lead the Beacons win the 2016 Little East regular season title and an appearance in the 2016 NCAA Division III New England Regional. In 2017, the Beacons won the Little East Conference Championship and returned to the NCAA Division IIII New England Regional, which the team won, and advanced to the 2017 NCAA Division III College World Series in Appleton, Wis.
At Framingham State, Callahan was the Rams’ starting catcher for four years, from 2008-2011.
Callahan grew up in Watertown and played youth baseball in town. He played a Watertown High School.
“My coach then was Joe Chiodo. Every day he would have our entire practice detailed, set-up and very clearly listed what we were expected to accomplish or individually work on,” Callahan said. “Being taught the correct way to fundamentally play and learn all the intricacies of the game, completely evolved how I played and the level I became able to play too.
“And as a coach now has given me a guideline and standard that I hold my current players too”
