The following information was provided by the Watertown Police Department.
Arrests
May 21, 1:19 a.m.: An officer spotted a vehicle heading eastbound on Main Street and then make a sharp right turn onto Pleasant Street, which is one way the opposite direction at that point. The officer stopped the driver and while speaking with the him the officer detected a strong odor of alcohol from the driver. The driver admitted to drinking alcohol before driving. He failed four field sobriety tests. The driver also had a prior OUI conviction. The 43-year-old Boston man was arrested on a charge of driving under the influence of alcohol, a second offense, and was cited for a one-way street violation.
May 21, 5:32 a.m.: An officer recognized a driver, who he knew to have a revoked driver’s license, driving on Orchard Street at Common Street. The vehicle was stopped and the 47-year-old Watertown man was arrested for driving with a revoked license.
May 21, 9:44 p.m.: A vehicle going at a high rate of speed went past a traffic officer and was pulled over. When speaking with the driver, police discovered the driver had an extradition warrant out of Florida for four warrants issued by the Orange County Sheriff’s Office: trafficking in counterfeit credit cards, fraudulent use of personal identification, forgery of credit cards, and motor vehicle larceny. He also had a suspended license. The 33-year-old Malden man was arrested on charges of speeding, unlicensed driving, and the fugitive from justice warrant.
May 25, 2:30 p.m.: A vehicle ran a red light in Watertown Square and was pulled over by a police officer. While speaking with the driver, the officer noticed that the driver showed signs of impairment. While the breath test showed no signs of alcohol the driver failed field sobriety tests. The officer found some unknown pills and some prescription drugs. The 29-year-old Littleton woman was arrested on the charge of driving under the influence of drugs.
May 27, 4:09 p.m.: A concerned motorist called police after seeing a driver operating a vehicle erratically in the area of Arsenal Street and School Street. An officer located the vehicle and saw the vehicle swerve between lanes and cross the center yellow line. Also, the vehicle attempted to pass another vehicle by going up on the curb. The vehicle was pulled over and the driver showed signs of intoxication. The driver admitted said he was coming from a cookout where he had consumed alcohol. The man failed field sobriety tests. He also had a prior OUI arrest. The 51-year-old Brighton man was arrested on a charge of driving under the influence of alcohol, a second offense, and marked lanes violation.
Incidents
May 22, 10:50 a.m.: A Paul Street resident reported that her front license plate had been stolen. She is not sure when it was taken, and it may have been when she was traveling out of state.
May 23, 7 p.m.: A 34-year-old man reported that someone had used his ATM card to take thousands of dollars from his bank account. He was contacted by the fraud department at Citizens Bank, which reported that someone had made 17 separate ATM withdrawals the previous day in Randolph. Watertown Police took the report and sent it to police in Randolph, who will investigate the incident.
May 24, 11:05 a.m.: A resident reported that his wallet went missing between April 30 and May 16 and he realized that some of his checks had been cashed by someone in Belmont, or declined when attempting to cash them. Two checks were cashed for $450 and three others — written for a total of $700 — were declined . The case was passed on to Belmont Police because the checks were cashed in that town.
May 24, 3:15 p.m.: A driver getting gas at East Coast Gas tried to pay with a temporary Bank of America debit card. While an employee was running the card, he recalled the driver from the week before when he tried to pay for gas with a debit card and it was declined. The card was declined, and when he turned around the employee saw the driver pulling away, and heading down School Street. He got the license plate, which was registered to an Enterprise rental car from Somerville. Police believe they have a suspect.
May 24, 8:45 p.m.: An officer was dispatched to General Market on Waverley Avenue for someone trying to use a counterfeit bill. That afternoon, a teenage boy tried to purchase two bottles of ice tea, a can of soda and gum with a $50. The clerk said it was obviously counterfeit and would not accept it as payment, but kept the bill to turn over to police. Security video caught he suspect on camera who is a young teenaged boy with light colored skin and wore a blue shirt. Police are investigating.
May 25, 10:15 p.m.: A package containing $175 in Sephora cosmetics was delivered to a home on Stuart Street and when the resident went to pick it up from her porch it was torn open and was empty.
May 26, 4:40 p.m.: A front license plate was reported missing by a Russell Avenue resident. It was taken sometime between May 19 and 26.
