The following information was provided by the Watertown Police Department.
Arrests
May 9, 1:18 a.m.: A man flagged down a police officer patrolling on Main Street near Town Hall. He did not have a particular problem, he just wanted to speak with the officer. While talking with the man, the officer discovered the man had a warrant for his arrest. The 35-year-old Lakeville man was arrested on the warrant from Hingham District Court for violating the terms of probation.
May 9, 4:28 a.m.: An officer came upon a vehicle on Main Street, at the traffic light at Church Street, and found the driver resting her head on the driver’s side window. The light went through the entire cycle and the vehicle did not move. It appeared the driver had fallen asleep with the motor running. The officer tapped on the window to wake up the woman, and succeeded after several attempts. The driver appeared to be dazed and there was an odor of alcohol. When asked what time it was, she said she thought it was 11 o’clock. After failing field sobriety tests, the 30-year-old Dracut woman was arrested on a charge of driving under the influence of alcohol.
May 9, 4:10 p.m.: A vehicle was spotted traveling while straddling the center yellow line on Bigelow Avenue. After being stopped, the driver said that he did not know why he was traveling down the middle of the road. The officer observed that the driver showed signs of impairment. He denied taking any substances. The man failed field sobriety tests, and the officer determined that the man was under the influence of narcotics. The 58-year-old Watertown man was arrested on charges of driving under the influence of drugs and marked lanes violation.
Incidents
May 7, 8:43 am.: The manager of the Sprint Store on Arsenal Street discovered someone had broken into the store and took three phones from the displays. The door was not damaged, but it appeared that it had been forced open. The incident was caught on security video, which shows that the suspect was in the store for about a minute and then ran away down Arsenal Street toward Brighton. He took one Motorola phone and two LG V30 phones, worth a combined $1250. The man also tried to grab an iPhone 8 but was unsuccessful. An alarm went off at one point overnight and Police found that the door was locked. They tried unsuccessfully to get in touch with someone from the Sprint Store. The Dunkin’ Donuts in the same building was open at the time but no one noticed anything.
May 8, 11:45 a.m.: An officer went to check on a man who was outside the Watertown Free Public Library. The man said he did not need any assistance, but while speaking with the officer the man made multiple threats of physical harm toward a third person, who was not there at the time. The threats were serious enough in nature that the officer issued a summons to Waltham District Court to the 48-year-old homeless man for threats to commit a crime.
May 12, 8:50 a.m.: An Evans Street resident reported that sometime overnight two cars were egged and one was scratched on the passenger side, rear quarter panel. Police spoke to other neighbors, and none of them reported hearing or seeing anything suspicious.
May 13, 11:50 a.m.: Police were called to Stop & Shop on Watertown Street for a person who came into the store, took shopping bags from the checkout area and filled them with items. The man tried to leave without paying, but the manager approached him after he got outside. The man ran off, but he dropped his wallet with his driver’s license and other identifying documents inside. Police summonsed the 57-year-old Newton man to Waltham District Court for shoplifting over $250.
