The following information was provided by the Watertown Police Department.
Arrests
March 19, 1:20 p.m.: A man was seen going through the self-checkout aisle at Target and scanning some items but not others. When security approached the man he kicked the guard and ran toward the back of the building. A detective who responded to the store saw the man running and chased him down. Security recognized the man from previous shoplifting incidents. He was found to have $124.92 in merchandise. The 42-year-old Boston man was arrested on charges of shoplifting over $100 and assault an battery.
March 19, 5 p.m.: An officer patrolling on Mt. Auburn Street in Coolidge Square ran the plate of a vehicle and found the owner had a revoked license. As the officer followed the vehicle it crossed over the line and into a left turn lane going in the opposite direction. The vehicle was pulled over and the officer detected an odor of alcohol on the driver’s breath. He admitted to drinking alcohol before driving and he failed three field sobriety tests. The 56-year-old Watertown man was arrested on a charge of driving under the influence of alcohol – a second offense, and for driving with a revoked license. He was also cited for marked lanes violation.
March 24, 3:55 p.m.: Police got a called about a car left in the Watertown Square Dunkin’ Donuts parking lot which was blocking traffic. An officer arrived and found the vehicle unoccupied. The officer went into the store and located the driver in the bathroom. The man showed signs of being intoxicated, including an odor of alcohol on him. The man admitted to drinking alcohol before driving. He failed field sobriety tests. Police also found an empty beer can in the vehicle. The 22-year-old Waltham man was arrested on a charge of driving under the influence of alcohol – a second offense, possession of an open container in a motor vehicle and driving with a revoked license.
March 24, 7:22 p.m.: A vehicle was pulled over by Police on Pierce Street near Belmont Street for a tinted window violation. When officers spoke to the people in the vehicle they found that a female passenger had a warrant for her arrest. The 45-year-old Watertown woman was arrested on the warrant from Brighton District Court for possession of a Class B drug.
Incidents
March 20, 12:30 p.m.: Some people came to the Police Station to report that their vehicle had been broken into while it was parked on the 100 block of Galen Street. They left the vehicle at 9 a.m. and came back at 11 a.m. to find that someone had gone into the vehicle and taken a bag that contained personal items. Nothing else was taken.
March 20, 5:10 p.m.: The owner of a vehicle came out to to find that someone had ripped the windshield wiper and the arm off of the person’s vehicle. It was parked at 2 p.m. and was discovered later that day. The damage is estimated at $200.
March 22, 7:10 p.m.: A woman took some food and two bottles of wine off the shelf at Target, put it in a backpack, and tried to leave without paying. She was stopped by security. The items were worth $35. The 18-year-old woman from Cornish, Maine, was summonsed to Waltham District Court for shoplifting.
March 23, 3 p.m.: A Waverley Avenue resident called police to report that a man was urinating on private property in a spot where he was visible to people in the area. The suspect was described as a white male, 5-foot-8, 40-50 years old, with greying hair who wore a black sweatshirt and black pants with a white stripe down the side. Police responded but could not locate him.
March 23, 7:22 p.m.: A resident’s trash barrel was reported missing from Concord Road. The resident believed it was taken.
March 25, 12:10 p.m.: A 27-year-old man was skateboarding at the Skate Park in Arsenal Park. When the man fell off his skateboard a man in his 40s made a comment. The two exchanged unpleasantries. The man in his 40s pushed the skateboarder down, causing minor abrasions. The man then left the area. He is described as being in his 40s and was possibly wearing a brown knit hat. Police could not locate anyone fitting that description.
