The All Night Party provides a substance free place for seniors to get together on graduation night. Volunteers do much of the set up, and chaperoning.

For decades, Watertown High School seniors have celebrated their graduation at the All Night Party, a cherished tradition organized by the Parent Teacher Student Organization (PTSO). This event is a labor of love for parents, teachers, and community members who dedicate their time and resources to create a memorable and safe celebration for the graduates.

The All Night Party provides a substance-free environment for seniors to gather and celebrate together one last time. Gina Brennan, president of the WHS PTSO, emphasizes the importance of this event in fostering community spirit and tradition, noting that many parents who attended the party as students now volunteer to support the current graduates.

Typically held in the high school gymnasium, the event will take place in the middle school gym this year due to ongoing construction at the high school. The space is transformed into a vibrant venue featuring dancing, photo opportunities, and various activities. David Breen, principal designer and founder of VDA, a Boston-based experiential event design agency, has been instrumental in decorating the venue for the past 15 years. He donates his supplies and workers, contributing approximately 18–20 hours of labor to ensure the space is beautifully prepared for the celebration.

The Watertown High School PTSO gets a hand from VDA, which provides the decorations for the All Night Party.

The Watertown Recreation Department will also contribute to the festivities by organizing activities for the students. This collaboration is particularly meaningful as many students have grown up participating in programs led by Recreation Director Ernie Thebado.

“The all night party is an amazing tradition that we are grateful to our PTSO for putting on. It keeps our kids safe and gives them one, final formative experience to enjoy as they launch into the rest of their lives. We couldn’t be happier with the all night party.” said Watertown High School Principal Joel Giacobozzi.

A highlight of the evening is the Wall of Stars, where each graduate’s name is displayed on a star, allowing students to take photos and commemorate their achievement. The event relies heavily on volunteers, with approximately 15–20 people assisting in the setup and additional volunteers helping during the event.

This year’s All Night Party is scheduled for June 6, beginning at 11:00 p.m. and concluding at 5:00 a.m. the following morning. To ensure a safe and enjoyable experience, the PTSO seeks chaperones who are not parents of seniors, welcoming community members to volunteer. Those interested in volunteering can contact Gina Brennan, PTSO President, at watertownptso@gmail.com.

The gym gets decked out to welcome WHS grads for the All Night Party.

The cost of organizing the All Night Party is approximately $10,000. While a portion of the funds is raised through ticket sales, which are priced at $20, the PTSO ensures that no student is turned away due to financial constraints. Additional funding comes from generous donations by parents, residents, and local businesses. Sponsors for this year’s event include Ben and Jerry’s, Cushing Square Veterinary Clinic, Donohue’s Bar and Grill, Dunkin Donuts, Enanta Pharmaceuticals, Express Tire & Auto Service, Frank Pepe’s Pizza, Ideal Fence, Jersey Mike’s, Joe’s Variety, John Brewers, Lamacchia Real Estate, MacDonald Funeral Home, Nardone Funeral Home, Roma Tile, Rotary Club, Watertown Community Foundation, Watertown Fire Fighters Local 1347, and Watertown Savings Bank.

We also appreciate the support and collaboration of Watertown High School’s School Resource Officer Kerry Kelley and the Watertown Police Department. Officer Kelley has been instrumental in ensuring the safety and success of this event, working closely with the PTSO and other community partners to provide a secure environment for our graduates.

The All Night Party stands as a testament to the Watertown community’s commitment to providing a safe, celebratory, and memorable experience for its graduating seniors.

  1. The year I graduated 1973, they decided they were not going to have an all-night party. It ended early.
