Greetings Councilors:
Has your residence been subjected to the nonemergency (Click here) CIP Project 2 Sewer Rehabilitation [shut off]? Specifically, on a Holy Day (Good Friday & Passover), when your family is preparing for a weekend religious observance? Well …, welcome to the East End!
Did you know: the news for folks, who reside on sections of Keenan St., Mt. Auburn St. and Elton Ave., for Good Friday, April 18th was as follows:
“…temporary sewer shut off, 7:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M. Flush your toilets sparingly [or not]. Using small amounts of water to wash your hands or brush your teeth is okay…..”
You try addressing Holiday and personal needs, when non essential water/sewer restrictions are imposed. City employees scheduled the work, with a paid contractor. Seems as though collateral consequences on the residents was of no concern. Note: my residence was not within the project scope.
DPW offices closed at 11:00 A.M. on Good Friday, the 18th. Previous Union contracts, and current agreements, allow for Town/City Hall to close mid-day, or 12:30 P.M. Whether the employees observe the Holiday, or not.
Union representatives support their membership during negotiations.Holy Days are respected.
Who advocates for the residents? In my opinion: I’m seeing no common sense or common courtesy from those who should speak up on behalf of the electorate. Thank you.
Best,
Angie
