Tables full of volunteers at the Senior Center filled pink and yellow plastic eggs with candy in preparation for an intergenerational event at one of Watertown’s assisted living homes.
On Monday, about 30 volunteers filled 250 eggs, and with another round on Tuesday, said Arlene Smith, who organized the event.
“I enjoy filling the eggs,” said Jo Balboni, a volunteer who has two granddaughters. “They are going to the Easter Egg Hunt at the Brigham House.”
Maria Monahan joined the egg filling day for the first time this year.
“I love doing charity — doing things for those less fortunate than us,” she said.

Paula Mahoney has taken part for four or five years, as well as other events organized by Smith.
“We also do things for Christmas, and Halloween,” Mahoney said. “Even Valentine’s Day. We make cards and she gives them to nursing homes.”
Smith first started the Easter Egg Hunt as part of her work with the Watertown Family Network. Now she does it on a volunteer basis. Having young children and their family visit an assisted living is great for the residents, she said.
“Seeing the children and the joy of finding the eggs brightens their day,” she said.
Other intergenerational events she coordinates with the Brigham House include the Halloween Happening, and the Teddy Bear Picnic.
Smith receives funds from the Marshall Home Fund and Watertown Savings Bank to cover the cost of the Easter Egg Hunt.
After the volunteers at the Senior Center finished filling the eggs, they got to work on a craft.
“They get to do something they like to do and bring it home,” Smith said. “And they love to talk. With other activities they can’t talk.”
The Easter Egg Hunt will be at Brigham House on April 12 at 10 a.m.
