The roadway through one of Watertown’s major business centers is being reconstructed, but the City reminds residents and customers that Coolidge Square is “Open for Business.”

The stretch of Mt. Auburn Street in front of businesses like Artemis Yoga, Olespana, Dunkin’, and 7-Eleven is being torn up, theses businesses remain open. At a recent meeting of East End businesses some reported drops in sales from this time last year, and others that parking has been difficult. Construction will be moving to other areas of Coolidge Square in coming weeks.

While some parking areas on the street are closed for construction, there are other places for customers to park, nearby said Erin Rathe, Watertown’s Senior Planner for Economic Development.

“The City of Watertown and its economic development team want everyone to know that Coolidge Square is ‘Open for Business’ even as construction picks up again this year,” she said. “The City’s communications, DPW, Police, and economic development teams are all working with MassDOT and Newport Construction to ensure that Coolidge Square businesses will remain accessible throughout the multi-year construction project. So whether you’re grabbing a coffee, stopping in for a yoga class, picking up groceries or treats, meeting friends for a meal, or getting a haircut, your local favorites are ready to welcome you!”

The City created a map showing both metered and customer parking options in the area, as well as alternatives to get around the area by bus, bike, and foot.
