Police Log: Stolen Car Found in Town, Citizenship and Pharmacy Scams Reported

The following information was provided by the Watertown Police Department.

Feb. 14: A man went into Nike and took a pair of Air Jordan One shoes priced at $125. He concealed them in a bag and left the store at 5:45 p.m. without paying.

Feb. 14: A pair of packages containing clothing were taken from an apartment complex on Arsenal Street. It was reported at 5:50 p.m.

Feb. 14: Two residents reported a scam. They believed they were applying for U.S. Citizenship with a lawyer and were communicating via WhatsApp. One person sent $3,800 and the other sent $10,000. They realized it was not legitimate. Police are investigating.

Feb. 15: A package was taken from an apartment building on Waverley Avenue. The resident ordered $212 worth of clothing and received notification that the package was out for delivery but never received it. Police are investigating.

Feb. 16: At 11:25 a.m. the Nike store reported a shoplifter took seven sweatshirts valued at $437.

Feb. 18: Officers spotted a car parked on Warren Street that had snow on it. They queried the plate and found that it was stolen from Auburn on Jan. 29. Watertown and Auburn Police are investigating.

Feb. 18: A resident came into the Police Station after getting a call from what the person thought was CVS. The caller asked if the resident wanted to fill a prescription for three months, and asked for personal information. The resident realized it was a scam.

Feb. 18: A Watertown man was arrested for a warrant out of Somerville District Court. Brian Murphy, 46, was placed under arrest for the warrant for assault with a dangerous weapon and malicious destruction of property.

Feb. 19: A resident reported that someone tried to open a Best Buy credit card in her name.

Feb. 19: A man went into Target and took $42 worth of clothing. The incident was reported at 1:30 p.m.

Feb. 19: A car on Phillips Street was egged. The vehicle sustained no permanent damage.

Feb. 19: A resident reported that personal information was stolen during a data breach and someone opened a Department of Education student loan for $2,400 at University of Phoenix. The resident does not attend that school.
