Watertown High School’s field hockey team eased into the Final Four with an overwhelming victory over Bedford in the Round of 8 in the MIAA Div. 3 State Tournament at Victory Field on Saturday.

The second-seeded Raiders scored early and often, with senior Caroline Andrade scoring the first two, followed by three straight tallies by senior co-captain Rachel Egan. Andrade completed her hat trick before the end of the first quarter, and Egan netted a pair in the second quarter.

Watertown took the foot off the gas pedal in the second half, not notching a goal or shot on net, and freshman goalie Brooke Lambo was not tested by 10th-seeded Bedford during the game. The team finished the game with an 18-0 shot advantage.

Egan said Saturday’s contest was a team win where everyone on Watertown played hard.

“We had a strategy going into the game and we were able to get what we wanted to get done,” Egan said. “It’s a great feeling.”

The win came after a close, 2-0 victory over St. Mary’s in Tuesday’s Round of 16 game.

“I feel like we came out a lot stronger in this game,” Andrade said after the game. “I feel like St. Mary’s had a lot of strong balls coming up which we weren’t really used to in the rest of the season.”

Any team in the tournament at this level is talented, said Watertown Head Coach Eileen Donahue. Next up for the Raiders in sixth-seeded Dennis-Yarmouth (14-5-2), which defeated Newburyport 1-0 on Saturday. The time and place have not yet been announced.

“We just gotta keep practicing hard, just keep playing as a team, and just keep supporting one another,” Donahue said. “Each game gets tougher and tougher.”

Watertown improved to 20-0 in 2024, and increased its unbeaten streak to 95 games.
