The Raiders moved on to the Round of 8 in the MIAA Div. 3 Field Hockey Tournament after defeating St. Mary’s 2-0 on Tuesday afternoon.
Watertown took a 1-0 lead in the first quarter when senior co-captain Rachel Egan on a goal assisted by freshman Gianna Venezia.
The Spartans kept the deficit at just one goal until the fourth quarter despite several Watertown scoring chances. With 8:20 left in the game, senior co-captain Adrianna Williams shot a rebound into the net to give the Raiders a 2-0 lead.
Watertown was held to the fewest number of goals in a game this season, after the previous lowest offensive output of three goals against Belmont and Reading.
The second-seeded Raiders extended their unbeaten streak to 94 games and improved to 19-0. Watertown will host the Round of 8 game on Saturday, Nov. 9 at 11 a.m. The opponent will be the winner of Thursday’s game between 7th-seeded North Reading (14-3-2) or 10th-seeded Bedford (13-2-2).
Boys Soccer
Watertown High School’s boys soccer team traveled to Belchertown on Monday and narrowly lost in the Round of 32 of the MIAA Div. 3 Soccer Tournament. The Raiders fell 1-0, and ended the season with a record of 8-10-3.
Football
The Raiders football squad will head to Andover to play Greater Lawrence Tech on Thursday at 6 p.m. Watertown (2-6) faces the 3-5 Reggies will play in the non-playoff matchup.
