The building that housed the Watertown Main Post Office for many years is no more. The structure was torn down on Tuesday, Sept. 24 to make way for a new project.
Watertown resident Chuck Dickinson snapped photos and shot a video of the demolition of the building.
The building was torn down in preparation for the new five story building with retail space and parking on the ground floor and residential units on the upper floors.
The project at 104 Main St. was approved by the Zoning Board of Appeals in October 2023.
At the October meeting, developers said they have reached out to the U.S. Postal Service to offer space in the new development, but they had not received word from the Post Office about their plans.
What now is the fate of the post office users in Watertown?
Good question. There are post offices in East Watertown and on Galen Street in Watertown and others in nearby communities. https://www.watertownmanews.com/2023/12/27/watertowns-main-street-post-office-closing-for-at-least-2-years/
this is terrible! I thought that building of usps was in , was a Historically protected building !!
it was a brick box building built in the 70s. there was nothing of historical significance to protect.
