The Department of Public Works provided the following announcement:
The Water Department’s Annual Hydrant Fall Flushing Program is September 16 through October 24, 2024 between 7 to 11 p.m.
The purpose of flushing is to remove sediment build up in the water mains and to verify the safe operation of hydrants and valves.
Flushing the system may cause discolored water. It is bacteriologically safe to drink, but unpleasant to look at.
This situation can usually be resolved by running your cold water until it clears up.
Locate the closest and lowest cold-water faucet in your building. Remove the aerator if there is one and turn on the cold-water faucet for a few minutes. Do not use the hot water since the sediments may be pulled into the hot water tank. If the water is still discolored after running the cold water, turn off the faucet and check it again later.
If discoloration continues contact 311 Service Center Team by dialing 3-1-1 inside of Watertown (or 617-715-8660) or send an email to 311@watertown-ma.gov. The Center is staffed Monday through Friday from 8:30 am to 5:00 pm (until 7:00 pm on Tuesdays)
We will post the individual street schedule each morning on Facebook and Instragram, and you can also look up your street on our website anytime.
I looked up to find when they’re flushing for my street, Bigelow Ave. The entry says “Bigelow Ave @ Short Street”
FYI there is NO SHORT ST that I could find on any map that intersects or is near Bigelow Ave.
Please correct this.
They probably mean Artsakh St, it’s the short street between the Armenian and Greek churches.
Hi,
They definitely mean Artsakh St. sometimes it is taken from older maps.
