Turf and Get Lively(R) Health & Fitness Studio hosted the first-annual Pass the Torch: Youth Sports Equipment Rally to get gently used equipment into the hands of local kids. At the end of a very busy and beautiful spring day, we were left with a few items of value, so we headed over to Play it Again Sports in Waltham to trade them for cash. We planned to push the cash back to the community in the form of a recreational scholarship designed to help a family defray some the expense of a program for which their child would like to participate.
Turf rounded up the amount received from Play it Again and matched it so that it can now offer a 2024 Turf Recreation Scholarship of $200. Apply for the scholarship before September 3, 2024. See details below.
Why does Turf offer a scholarship?
Turf is all about making it easier for parents to find and register their kids for activities and that includes helping them offset the expense, when we can.
Today, the Turf scholarship exists to assist a Watertown family who could use a hand offsetting the cost of a camp, art class, recreation program, or a sports league this year.
Eligibility Requirements
Scholarship recipient must be a member of the Turf community, which means they have an account on Turfgo.io. Scholarship recipients must reside in Watertown, MA and have a Watertown, MA mailing address.
The family must register a child for a program that begins in 2024.
Turf would like the recipient to agree to a photo with Turf and be granted approval for Turf to write an article about the scholarship that will be shared with local media outlets and online through social media. The photo and media are optional.
Scholarship Amount
This scholarship is funded by the proceeds from the sports equipment swap held by Turf each spring and will vary year to year. In 2024, we sold items that were left at the end of the swap to Play it Again Sports in Waltham. The amount raised was $92.42. Turf matched the amount and rounded it up to the nearest hundred to arrive at a total 2024 Turf Recreation Scholarship amount of $200.
How to Apply for the Scholarship
To apply for the scholarship, send an email to support@turfgo.io with the subject line: “2024 Turf Recreation Scholarship” Include your name, telephone number, email address, physical address, a description of your family and why you love Watertown, and a link to the activity you would like to apply the scholarship to. Emails must arrive before September 3, 2024.
The Selection Process
Turf will review all applications with a panel made up of 3 Watertown business owners or parents. Together, the panel will determine who will receive the scholarship. The winner will be notified by email and/or a telephone call before September 10, 2024.
Funds will be distributed directly to the program provider via a Turfgo, LLC business check. No cash or check will be delivered to the winning family. The scholarship is not transferrable. If the family does not wish to take advantage of the scholarship before September 30, 2024, they will automatically withdraw their eligibility and another recipient will be notified.
