Police Log: Man Allegedly Strangled Domino’s Employee, Phone Hacked and $20K in Bitcoin Stolen

The following information was provided by the Watertown Police Department.

Aug. 8, 10:43 p.m.: An officer at Church and Main streets saw a Toyota SUV go through a red light. The driver was pulled over and when the officer spoke with the driver it was discovered the man had a warrant for his arrest. Hufeyin Alaskan, 21, of Waltham, was arrested for unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle.

Aug. 9, 12:15 p.m.: A man went through the self checkout at Target and paid for $37 of merchandise, but left with $168 in unpaid items. The merchandise included home goods and groceries.

Aug. 9, 7:45 p.m.: A woman went to Target and concealed items under her coat and went into the changing room. She left without paying for $208 worth of clothing.

Aug. 10, 4:50 a.m.: A man came into the Police Station because he learned he was wanted on a warrant. Tyrone Williams, 34, of Watertown, was arrested on the warrant from Natick District Court.

Aug. 10, 8:45 a.m.: A resident reported that a debit card that had been taken in July was used in Cambridge for $77 at CVS and $100 at Staples. It was used at other stores, as well.

Aug. 10, 9 a.m.: A bicycle was stolen from an apartment building on Coolidge Avenue. The grey Trek bike, valued at $1,800, went missing within the last two months. It was not locked.

Aug. 10, 10:30 a.m.: A man took clothing off the rack at the Nike Store, rolled it up and concealed it in his pants. He walked out with $40 in clothing.

Aug. 10, 8:30 p.m.: A bicycle was taken from Kingsbury Avenue. The Giant bicycle was locked to a bike rack and went missing within the prior two weeks. It is black with white letters, and is valued at $400.

Aug. 11, 7 p.m.: A woman took a cart full of items out of the mall entrance of Target without paying. The items were worth an estimated $450, and included shelving units, a microwave, a Keurig coffee maker, a baby monitor, and a comforter. The woman was accompanied by a 10-year-old child and a man.

Aug. 12, 1:15 p.m.: A resident’s phone was hacked and the person’s Coinbase account was hacked and the password was changed. The suspect took $20,000 in Bitcoin.

Aug. 12, 5:20 p.m.: A man went into Best Buy and took a pair of Bose QC Ultra headphones off the shelf and walked out without paying. They are valued at $350

Aug. 13, 3:15 p.m.: A man entered Best Buy and grabbed a shopping cart. He took two gaming headphones, worth a total of $280, and exited out of the rear door which set off the alarm. He got on a black moped and rode off toward Arsenal Street.

Aug. 13: A man who had shopped at Roche Bros. that day realized his iPhone 15 was missing. He went back to the store and it was gone. He was able to use track my iPhone and it showed up in Roxbury. Boston Police were notified, and the case remains under investigation.

Aug. 14, 8 p.m.: A man ordered takeout from Domino’s on Arsenal Street and when he went to pick the food up he got into an argument with an employee. The dispute escalated and the man got upset and punched the employee. Then he put the employee into a headlock, and punched him in the head and face. The victim told police he was having trouble breathing. Other patrons and employees were able to separate the two men. Police were called and placed Avedis Vartanian, 71, of Arlington, under arrest on charges of assault and battery and strangulation. He was arraigned in Waltham District Court on Aug. 15.
