The following announcement was provided by the Massachusetts Housing Partnership:
Each year MHP honors individuals and communities for their hard work and unwavering commitment to supporting and furthering affordable housing. President and CEO of the Charles River Regional Chamber Greg Reibman has been selected as one of four recipients of this year’s Housing Hero award. MHP will present the award on day 2 of its Housing Institute training conference on Thursday, June 13 in Worcester.
Reibman has become known as the voice that people will listen to. He has built an exceptional level of support for housing, especially in the business community. He’s been a strong voice, building the case for communities to take action to comply with Section 3A of the Zoning Act. A community organizer at heart, he has utilized his background in digital, print and broadcast media to help tell the story of why it’s important to allow room for growth in the state’s MBTA communities.
“Housing is the direct pipeline to the jobs that we need, the jobs that we’re all struggling to fill,” said Reibman.
His efforts and relationships with news organizations, business groups and elected leaders have brought a range of individuals and groups on board to build the local case for housing more broadly in Newton, Needham, Watertown and Wellesley and throughout the Greater Boston area.
The other recipients are Braintree Town Councilor Meredith Boericke, Abundant Housing Massachusetts, and the Town of Brewster.
The ceremony and luncheon honoring the housing heroes will be held on June 13 at 11:45 a.m. at the AC Hotel, 125 Front St., Worcester.
MHP is a statewide, nonprofit quasi-public organization that works in concert with the governor and the Executive Office of Housing and Livable Communities (EOHLC) to increase the supply of affordable housing in Massachusetts.
Man who led opposition to increasing linkage fee in town to address affordable housing, and who advocated for its delay, wins affordable housing award. What a strange world we live in.
Huh? Reibman’s opinion pieces indicate he is one of those trickle-down affordability advocates. The Big Real Estate free market will take care of the housing crisis. Just build multi-unit luxury housing with the minimum number of zoning-required “affordable units.”
Congratulations Greg! This is well deserved! You provided such a large plaform for the housing crisis. I still remember the Fall Forum and how it showcased who gets to be part of the Massachusetts Miracle and who doesn’t. Thanks!
