Michael Tougias, author of Exploring The Hidden Charles, will present a narrated slide presentation about his beloved river. The presentation follows the Charles River on its 80 mile journey from Hopkinton to Boston, and along the way Tougias will share anecdotes, history, wildlife encounters and conservation issues. Suggestions for exploring the river and nearby reservations will also be discussed.
After the presentation Tougias will sign copies of his books and answer questions about the river or about the writing and publishing process.
Tougias is a New York Times Bestselling author and co-author of 30 books including “Extreme Survival: Lessons From Those Who Have Triumphed Against All Odds.” His book “There’s A Porcupine in My Outhouse!” Was the winner of the Independent Publishers Best Nature of Book of the Year). The Disney Corporation has made a major motion picture of his book “The Finest Hours”
His book “Ten Hours Until Dawn: The True Story of Heroism and Tragedy Aboard the Can Do” was selected as “one of the best books of the year” by the American Library Association. Another of his books, “Overboard!
“A True Bluewater Odyssey of Disaster and Survival,” was praised by the Boston Globe as a “heart-pounding story you will not be able to put down.” His latest book is “The Waters Between Us: A Boy, A Father, Outdoor Misadventures, and the Healing Power of Nature.”

This event is free and open to the public. Parking is free in the library lot on Sundays, but may be limited as the result of a concurrent event scheduled in Saltonstall Park. The Historical Society of Watertown has received permission for attendees of its program to use the Watertown Savings Bank parking lot accessible by turning from Main Street onto Cross Street, taking a left onto Pleasant Street, then taking another left into the lot.
