The following information was provided by the Watertown Police Department.
Arrests
Sept. 16, 10:54 p.m.: A member of the public reported seeing a person sleeping in their vehicle on Arlington Street near Arsenal Street. When police arrived they found a man in a black Lexus sedan who was asleep at the wheel with the vehicle in drive and his foot on the brake. The car was stopped in the travel lane. Officers eventually woke the man after shining flashlights and knocking on the window. They asked the driver to put the car into park but he was not able to follow instructions, so an officer had to reach in and shift the gear. The man had a strong odor of alcohol on his breath. He did not pass four field sobriety tests. Brian Guerra, 27, of Allston, was arrested on a charge of driving under the influence of alcohol and was cited for impeded operation of a motor vehicle.
Sept. 19, 3 a.m.: A car rolled on its side on Galen Street, trapping the driver inside. When police arrived they found the driver on the phone with 911. It appeared that the 2011 Subaru Forester was heading north from Newton into Watertown, veered and struck a curb and a utility pole at the intersection of Galen and Maple streets, flipping it on to its side. Watertown firefighters also responded and removed the driver from the vehicle. He was evaluated by paramedics. Officers detected a strong odor of alcohol on the driver’s breath, and noticed he was slurring his words and his eyes were glassy and bloodshot. Michael J. Kelley, 63, of Watertown, was arrested on a charge of driving under the influence of alcohol and he was cited for marked lanes violation. He did not appear to have suffered significant injuries but was transported to hospital to be evaluated.
Incidents
Sept. 15, 8:31 a.m.: A car went missing from an auto shop on Main Street. The owner of Bazarian Motors reported that a 2006 Mercedes E500 was stolen from his parking lot. The vehicle had been locked and the keys were not left in the vehicle. The next day, the car was recovered by police on Ward Avenue in Waltham. Waltham and Watertown police are working on the investigation.
Sept. 15, 5:39 p.m.: A resident reported he was scammed by someone on Craigslist. The man was selling a vehicle on the site, and the buyer wanted to pay for it using Cash App because the he said he lives out of state. The phone number the person called from was in Kentucky. The buyer said that the seller had to send him $300 in Google Play gift cards. The seller was not familiar with how Cash App works, so he bought the gift cards and sent the information to the buyer. Then he realized it was a scam and reported it to police.
Sept. 17, 2:20 p.m.: A windshield wiper blade was taken off a BMW parked in the lot at 66 Bond St. in Arsenal Yards. The estimated cost to replace it is between $50-$100.
Sept. 17, 7:18 p.m.: A Dartmouth Street resident reported that someone had used his credit card in New Jersey. He received a call from a beauty supply store in South Plainfield, N.J., asking whether he had just made a purchase for $554.45 using a MasterCard. The man said he had not and that he lives in Massachusetts. The store clerk said someone had come into the store and made a purchase using the man’s personal information. Watertown Police connected the man with the South Plainfield Police, who are investigating.
Sept. 18, 1:43 p.m.: A shoplifter tried to take items from Home Depot. The man put several items on a shopping cart and tried to walk past registers without paying. He was stopped and admitted to stealing the items. He had $585.53 worth of merchandise including a pruning saw, a circular saw, light dimmer switches, trash bags, respirators masks, and a Google Chromecast device. The 28-year-old man from Lynn was summoned to Waltham District Court on a charge of shoplifting over $250.
Watertown Police typically don’t release names of people summoned. They do for people arrested.
