The Gallows and the developers of Arsenal Yards announced that the South End eatery will be opening a new location in the remodeled Arsenal Mall in Watertown. Diners can enjoy modern American cuisine with a French flair in the new location at Arsenal Yards, which will feature a patio dining area.
The Gallows is part of a group of restaurants and eateries, that also includes Blackbird Doughnuts, Banyan and Sally’s Sandwiches. The following announcement was provided by Boylston Properties:
Boylston Properties and Wilder proudly announced today that The Gallows restaurant, which has been a popular South End favorite since 2010, will open its second location in Watertown’s Arsenal Yards neighborhood.
The 4,000-square-foot space will be The Gallows’ very first hybrid restaurant featuring cult-favorite doughnuts from Blackbird Doughnuts, new food and beverage concepts, and outdoor dining on its patio overlooking Arsenal Park on the Charles River.
Arsenal Yards is anticipated to be Greater Boston’s coolest new neighborhood, due in part by its mix of local, national and international cult-favorites set to open — and The Gallows is a great example. With over one million sq. ft. of development, Arsenal Yards will include 250,000 sq. ft. of retail, dining, local grocery chain, Roche Bros. and entertainment, including a seven screen Majestic Cinema movie theater. Arsenal Yards will also include 108,000 sq. ft. of life science lab space, a 146-room Hampton Inn by Hilton and over 300 contemporary apartments.
The Gallows in Arsenal Yards will offer families and friends a modern and comfortable space to break bread and unwind with a drink or two selected from a carefully crafted cocktail menu either inside the spacious dining room or on the patio outside. The cuisine features New American fare using classical French techniques, putting a new twist on familiar dishes.
“Arsenal Yards is the ideal next location for The Gallows and is perfectly timed for us to create a unique hybrid concept with Blackbird Donuts inthe expansive space,” said Elena Todisco, Managing Director at The Gallows Group. “The Gallows has a unique personality and we were immediately drawn to the neighborhood feel that Arsenal Yards will foster their approach to hospitality, community, and being uniquely experiential. We’re excited to bring our good food and good vibes to Watertown next year.”
Similar to its South End location, The Gallows menu will include the Our Way Burger, a flat top meat patty topped with American cheese, iceberg lettuce, caramelized onion, pickles and paired with hand-cut fries; the Scotch Egg, a panko-dipped pork sausage wrapped around a fried soft boiled egg; and an indulgent crowd favorite–the Poutine, hand-cut fries smothered in house-made gravy and ricotta cheese. The cocktail menu will
feature original Gallows drinks including a few tasty staples like the jalapeno vodka and lime drink known as the Brazen Bull and Skin & Bones, a Thai basil tequila with watermelon, lime and mezcal.
“The Gallows is the perfect complement to the mix of restaurants and retailers we are cultivating at Arsenal Yards,” said Bill McQuillan, Principal at Boylston Properties. “Rebecca Roth Gullo’s spirited take on hospitality
and conviviality has made The Gallows a local institution and we look forward to incorporating that same energy into the Arsenal Yards experience.”
With over 4,000 sq. ft., The Gallows will also offer private space for groups who would like a more exclusive and intimate dining experience. Famous for its unique style and unusual flavors of doughnuts, the Blackbird Donuts signature touches will be incorporated into The Gallows beyond menu items.
“We’re continuing to attract businesses who want to be part of the Arsenal Yards neighborhood experience, including a commitment to the future with a connection to its heritage,” said Kerry Dowling, Senior Vice President, Leasing at Wilder. “The Gallows/Blackbird hybrid hospitality concept is a reflection of that new energy and innovation, and we are excited to welcome them to Arsenal Yards.”
The Gallows joins Arsenal Yards’ upcoming lineup of restaurants including Shake Shack, City Works Eatery and Pour House, Pokeworks, Tori Jiro, and local family-owned restaurant Condesa Restaurante Mexicano. The upcoming retail roster includes: Majestic Cinemas, Roche Bros., Marshalls, Ulta Beauty, European Wax Center, Gap Factory Store, Old Navy, Santander, T-Mobile, The Home Depot, and more. Additionally, Kymera Therapeutics and SQZ Biotech are two of several life science companies slated to move into Arsenal Yards’ state-of-the-art biotech lab space, with additional leases to be announced soon.
From the current restaurant’s website: “The Gallows is a LOUD & WELCOMING hangout in the neck of Boston’s South End. We are an extension of your own kitchen, only better.”
Catering I guess to a population segment with no interest in conversation outside of leaning across the table and shouting. Better than your own kitchen in that bellowing at that decibel level at home would probably result in a visit from the police.
You sound like you’re fun at parties.
Yeah, enough with all this chi chi frou frou scotch eggs and candied lavender topped donuts ridiculousness, Arsenal Yards. How’s about we get a place that has an early bird special, serves a nice prime rib and offers a discount to AARP members? Would that be too much to ask?
Well, there goes the neighborhood.
At least throw us a bone and include a 5 Guys, Chick Fil A, Texas Roadhouse, etc
in the works.
