The following information was provided by the Watertown Police Department.
Arrests
Sept. 4, 1:10 a.m.: An officer patrolling on Mt. Auburn Street ran the plate of the vehicle in front of him and found that the owner had a suspended license. The vehicle was pulled over and the officer confirmed that the owner was driving. The 53-year-old Weston man was arrested on the charge of driving with a suspended license, a subsequent offense. He was also cited for not having a valid inspection sticker.
Sept. 4, 4:37 p.m.: While patrolling in Watertown Square, an officer saw a vehicle run a red light. The vehicle was stopped in the municipal parking lot and the officer discovered the driver had a suspended license and was wanted on a warrant. The 31-year-old Boston man was arrested for driving with a suspended license, a second offense, and on the warrant from Waltham District Court for assault and battery on a person over 60.
Sept. 6, 8:14 p.m.: A man riding a moped on North Beacon Street was spotted running a red light by an officer. The man was pulled over and the officer discovered the man’s license had been revoked. The 47-year-old Newton man was arrested on a charge of driving with a revoked license, and cited for a red light violation.
Sept. 6, 11:30 a.m.: Two women called police to report they had seen a man sitting alone and masturbating in his vehicle on Waverley Avenue. They took a video and showed it to Police. Officers investigated and got an arrest warrant for the man, who came to the Police Station to turn himself in the following day. The 38-year-old Newton man was arrested for open and gross lewd and lascivious behavior.
Sept. 7, 4:53 p.m.: Police investigated the fraudulent use of a credit card that belonged to a dying woman who was in hospice care in her home. In early August, the card had been used the day before she died, the day she died and twice on days after she passed away. Police reviewed security tapes from the ATMs and identified a suspect. The man lived in the same Mt. Auburn Street complex as the victim. The man knew the woman, and helped the woman’s boyfriend take furniture out a room to may way for a hospital bed and other equipment. The man noticed the woman’s pocketbook and waited until the residence was empty, and then illegally entered and took two ATM cards. The man used the card to take $3,145. Withdrawals were made on Aug. 10, Aug. 11 and Aug. 13 at ATMs in Watertown, Cambridge and Boston. The 50-year-old Watertown man was arrested on one count of breaking and entering during the daytime to commit a felony, four counts of identification fraud, and four counts of larceny under $1,200 from a person 60 or over.
Sept. 8, 12:41 p.m.: An officer patrolling on Melendy Avenue spotted a man he knew was wanted on a warrant. The 35-year-old Watertown man was arrested on a warrant from Woburn District Court for failing to appear for jury duty.
Sept. 8, 9:10 a.m.: Police received information from Belmont Police that a man wanted on a warrant lived in town. Police went to his home and placed the 51-year-old Watertown man under arrest on the warrant from Cambridge District Court for two counts of threatening to commit a crime, one court of assault and battery on a police officer and one count of disorderly conduct.
Sept. 9, 10:23 p.m.: A woman was stopped in Target after she was seen putting items into a paper Target bag and attempted to leave without paying. She had an HP laptop computer, a Samsung tablet, several cell phone cases, cellphone accessories and women’s clothing. They were worth a combined $750. Store security also observed the woman remove the anti-theft device from the laptop. The 37-year-old Watertown woman was arrested for shoplifting and unlawful removal of a theft detection device.
Sept. 9, 6:16 p.m.: Target security spotted a man take a video game, then he lifted up his sweatshirt and tucked the game into his pants. The man then walked out of the store without paying and into the interior of the Watertown Mall. He was located and said that it was a misunderstanding. He was also seen concealing the game behind a potted plant in the mall. The game was recovered. Police arrested the 34-year-old Brighton man for shoplifting.
Incidents
Sept. 4, 6:33 a.m.: Police responded to Landon Avenue for the report of a stolen motor vehicle. The owner said his 2016 Ford Escape was parked in his driveway and was taken sometime overnight. The man said, to the best of his knowledge, the vehicle was locked, the windows were closed and the keys were not inside. There was no broken glass or signs of forced entry.
Sept. 4, 9 a.m.: A Maplewood Street resident discovered a vehicle had been broken into overnight. The owner thought the doors were locked, but there were no signs of forced entry. Fifteen dollars in quarters were taken. While on scene, Police learned a vehicle on Winsor Avenue had been broken into. It appeared the vehicle had been left unlocked. Nothing was taken from that vehicle.
Sept. 4, 2:22 p.m.: A Pleasant Street resident reported that a package containing a Dell computer that had been stolen. The package was confirmed delivered on Aug. 23, but the resident never received it. The computer is worth $3,145. Police are investigating.
Sept. 4, 8:13 p.m.: A Langdon Avenue resident reported that someone had broken into her vehicle. The inside of the vehicle, which was parked in the driveway, had been rummaged through. Nothing appeared to be missing. The vehicle had been left unlocked.
Sept. 5, 3:28 p.m.: An Edward Road resident returned home and noticed that the blinds on one of her windows were out of place. She worried someone was inside her home, so she called Police. Officers searched the home and did not find anyone inside. Some jewelry was taken from the home. The doors were locked, but a window was ajar.
Sept. 7, 9:15 p.m.: A Philip Darch Road resident was contacted through LinkedIn about the opportunity to be a secret shopper. The woman was sent a check from the person who contacted her, and was told to purchase $2,900 in gift cards. She purchased the gift cards and sent the serial numbers to the person. Later the woman was contacted by her bank which informed her that the check she had deposited was no good.
Sept. 9, 12:17 p.m.: A Sexton Street resident reported that a vehicle had been broken into sometime overnight between Sept. 6 and 7. An iPhone 7 and $5 in cash were taken. The car had been left unlocked and the phone had been deactivated.
