The Watertown High School field hockey team’s unbeaten streak ended last season, but the Raiders kept their run of state titles alive, winning their ninth straight in 2017.
The quest for 10 titles in a row begins next week with a scrimmage, and Watertown opens the regular season on Sept. 6 at Reading. The first home game for Coach Eileen Donahue’s team will be against Stoneham on Sept. 14.
The Raiders lost two All-Scholastic players, Jonna Kennedy, the goalie for the past three years, and Sydney Poulin. The team has restocked year after year and has some experience players coming back, including seniors Gabby Venezia and Olivia Lampasona and juniors Brianna Williams and Allison Kennedy.
Watertown will have a shot at revenge during the second home game, on Sept. 24 when the Raiders face the team that ended its unbeaten streak at 184. Winchester visits Victory Field at 4:15 p.m. on the 24th.
That game is the start of a four-game home stand, followed by a road game at Belmont.
Watertown will try to win its 11th straight North Section title (game scheduled for Nov. 10) in the hopes of reaching the State Final on Nov. 17.
