Hundreds of small children, parents and people just looking to share the Season’s spirit converged on Watertown Square Friday evening for the annual Watertown Tree Lighting Ceremony.
Anticipation was thick in the air as youngsters waited for Santa Claus. At about 5:15 p.m. he rolled up in a Watertown Fire Department SUV with red and white lights flashing.
Children looked on in awe as he waved and patted a few kids on the head. Santa posed for some pics before heading over to the tree decorated in Christmas lights and ornaments.
Joined by Paul Airasian, Community Relations liaison for the Watertown Belmont Chamber of Commerce, Santa led the countdown – 3, 2, 1 … and the Delta was bathed in lights from not only the small Christmas tree but also the larger trees decked out in white lights.
While waiting for the big event, people enjoyed cookies, cider and hot chocolate provided by the Rotary Club of Watertown and Watertown Savings Bank.
Music was provided by 105.7 WROR radio station, which also had giveaways and games
The tree was provided by A. Russo and Sons, Inc. Mr. Dirts Cleaning decorated the tree and the Watertown Department of Public Works transported and lit the tree. Refreshments served after the event at Watertown Savings were provided by the Pleasant Street Watertown Stop & Shop and Dunkin’ Donuts.
What a fun event it was again this year. Thank you to all who made it possible especially Watertown Savings Bank who opened their doors and welcomed all to come in for refreshments and pictures with Santa.
