The Watertown football team fought back after being down to Wakefield, but could not hold off the Warriors Friday night.
Down in the fourth quarter, the Raiders tied the game at 14 with just over 5 minutes left in the game. Wakefield got the ball late and had first and goal at the 1 with 32 seconds left in the fourth. Watertown’s defense held the Warriors for two downs but Wakefield scored with 14 ticks remaining to win 21-14 in Wakefield.
The loss puts the Raiders’ record at 3-4 for the season and 1-4 in the Middlesex League. Watertown should make the MIAA North Section Div. 5 playoffs. Seedings are due to be announced Sunday.
Field Hockey on a Roll
The Raiders’ field hockey team has quickly racked up a new winning streak after losing to Winchester in the second game of the season. Watertown has rolled off 14 straight wins, including several shutouts by senior goalie Jonna Kennedy.
Most recently, the Raiders beat Melrose 5-0 on Friday and shut out Wakefield 6-0 on Wednesday.
The previous week, Watertown beat Stoneham 6-0 and shut down Wellesley 5-0 in a non-league matchup with a Division 1 opponent. The team’s record is 15-1.
Boys Soccer On Positive Trend
After opening the season with a tie and a loss Watertown boys soccer team has been on the winning side of the score sheet most of the rest of the season.
A 3-0 loss to Melrose on Thursday broke a two game winning streak for Watertown, which had defeated Wakefield 3-0 and Stoneham 6-1.
In September, the Raiders put together a six-game winning streak, but then lost three-in-a-row including a 1-0 loss to Belmont. The team has a record of 8-5-1.
Swimming Wins Second Meet
The Watertown girls swimming team, which has teamed up with Arlington this year, won its second dual meet of the season.
Arlington-Watertown defeat Woburn 52-42 last Sunday. The team’s 200 medley relay and 400 free relay triumphed, along with wins in individual events by Malena Voss (200 IM), Katherine Nilov (50 free), Lily Barker (500 free, 100 back) and Niamh Murphy (100 breast).
The previous week, the team fell to Stoneham 52-39, but Li Ping Titterington won the 200 free for Arlington-Watertown.
