A firefighter’s funeral is an amazing spectacle as thousands of fellow firefighters come to show their last respects. To accommodate all those coming to bid farewell to Watertown Firefighter Joseph Toscano, Main Street in Watertown will be shut down much of Wednesday.
The Watertown Police Department announced the closure on Sunday afternoon.
“Please be advised that Main St from Waverley Ave to Watertown Square will be closed this Wednesday at 8:30 am for the funeral service of FF Toscano. Please seek alternate routes and plan accordingly,” the Facebook announcement said.
A Funeral Mass for Toscano will be held at St. Patrick’s Church at 11 a.m. on Wednesday.
Just three years ago Watertown witnessed the funeral of another fallen hero, Watertown native Ed Walsh, a Boston Fire Lieutenant who lost his life fighting a fire in the Back Bay in March 2014.
Parts of Main Street were shut down two days for Walsh’s wake and funeral, also held at St. Patrick’s. Visiting hours for Toscano will be held in his hometown of Randolph on Tuesday afternoon.
We are one family in Watertown community. We lost an honorable hero, father, husband, and firefighter : Joseph Toscano. Our prayers go out to his family and to the Watertown Fire Department. God bless you !
Parking lot behind cvs also closed.
