Both Watertown High School varsity basketball squads have enjoyed successful starts to their seasons, each only losing one game.
The boys, coached by Steve Harrington, have won eight straight after losing the opener against Arlington.
The team spreads the scoring around, but the top scorers for most games are John Korte (who scored 21 against Wilmington and 24 at Burlington) and Jayden Hairston (who was the top scorer at Burlington with 18). Vondre Chase and Julio Fulcar routinely score in double figures, too.
The Raiders have road games against Wakefield and Woburn before returning to host Lexington on Friday, Jan. 27 at 7 p.m.
The girls basketball team dropped their first game of the season at Melrose last Friday. The defending EMass champs, under the coaching of Patrick Ferdinand, have a record of 7-1.
Senior center Shannon Murphy again is the focus of the Raiders’ offense. She scored 24 against Burlington and 18 points in Watertown’s overtime victory over Boston Latin earlier this year.
The girls host two straight home games, one on Friday, Jan. 20 at 7 p.m. against Wakefield and against Woburn on Tuesday, Jan. 24 at 6 p.m.
