Police Log: Man Attacked After Following Car Home, Driver Busted on OUI

The following information was provided by the Watertown Police Department.

Arrests

Dec. 17, 1:23 a.m.: An officer patrolling in Watertown Square spotted a vehicle in the left turn lane on Main Street go straight when the left arrow was green by the light for straight was red. The officer followed and saw the vehicle weave over the center line multiple times. The officer pulled over the driver on Arsenal Street and observed signs of intoxication. The driver admitted to drinking alcohol before getting in the vehicle. He failed four field sobriety tests. The 25-year old man from Malden was arrested on charges of driving under the influence of alcohol, a red light violation and a marked lanes violation.

Dec. 18, 3:55 p.m.: Police received information that a man was wanted on an outstanding warrant. They went to his home on Pierce Road, identified the man and took him into custody. The 34-year-old Watertown man was arrested on the warrant from Brighton District Court for possession of a Class B drug.

Incidents

Dec. 12, 10 a.m.: Target security spotted a man take items from the health and beauty section of the store, and then moved to the electronics area where he took a printer cartridge and two cell phone cases. The man put the printer cartridge back, but put the cell phone cases in his jacket. When security stopped the man he had $89.98 worth of merchandise. The 29-year-old man from Waltham was summonsed to Waltham District Court for shoplifting by concealment.

Dec. 12, 2 p.m.: A driver stopped at Home Depot to shop and returned to find a fresh scratch on the person’s vehicle. The scratch was on the driver side door and rear quarter panel, and appeared to have been made by a key or another hard object. The estimated damage was $500.

Dec. 13, 9:40 p.m.: A man followed a vehicle to Green Street after a passenger in another vehicle made an obscene gesture at him. The man, who is 69 years old, said he just wanted to know why the person made the gesture. When he arrived, a relative of the woman driving the other car came out and confronted the man. The man tried to get out of his vehicle, but the relative slammed the door on his legs. When he did get out of the vehicle, the man punched him in the face. The man suffered some injuries to his face. Police were called and after investigating the incident, a 23-year-old man was summonsed to Waltham District Court for assault and battery on a person 60 or older and assault and battery with a dangerous weapon (the car door) on a person 60 or older.

Dec. 14, 7 p.m.: A Coolidge Avenue resident came to the Police Station to report that packaged had been stolen from taken from in front of the person’s home. They were taken between Nov. 15 and Dec. 14. One contained a necklace, another a cast-iron skillet and bathmat and the third a board game. The total value is $230.

  1. It’s always a bad idea to follow people home to find out WHY you got flipped off…. at 69 years old, he shouldn’t let obscene gestures bother him.
