A woman crossing Main Street in the area of the Watertown Police Station was struck by a vehicle Thursday evening, but was not seriously injured.
At about 6 p.m., a woman was crossing Main Street heading south and was struck by a pickup truck heading westbound, said Police Lt. James O’Connor. She suffered minor injuries, but was transported to hospital.
The cause of the accident remains under investigation.
Traffic was diverted into side streets around the accident scene, but cleared by about 7 p.m.
I live right near that crosswalk, and came upon the site of the accident as I got off the bus last night. My neighbors and I noticed that it was very dark there – the only lights were from the cop cars parked there. We need better lighting at ALL the crosswalks in Watertown, especially at this time of year, when it’s dark so early. Aside from the fact that the crosswalks are often dangerous because of people driving fast or not paying attention, they are not well lit. Is there a way to add lighting (maybe with motion sensors?) to crosswalks?
