Work on gas mains on Mt. Auburn Street will take place on Sundays for the near future, and could have some impact on traffic and bus service.
National Grid will be drilling test holes on Mt. Auburn Street in preparation for a gas main replacement project. Crews have already replacing the gas mains on Norseman Avenue and Ralph Piteri Terrace, which are across from Sacred Heart Parish.
Work must be done on Sundays, contractors wrote in an email to the Department of Public Works because the overhead electrical lines which power the buses are de-energized that day and “will allow us to work safely and also not impact the buses.”
Work will continue each Sunday until it is complete. Electronic message boards will be up by the Thursday before each Sunday with information about that week’s work.
