The defending state champions are not done yet. The Watertown boys hockey team grabbed a spot in the MIAA Div. 3 North Section tournament when the seedings were announced Saturday.
The Raiders finished the year 9-11 and will play Northeast Regional on Thursday, March 3 in the first round of the tournament. The game will be played at Hallenborg Ice Rink in Billerica at 7 p.m.
Last year, Watertown made its first state final and beat Agawam to claim the Div. 3 state championship. The winner of Thursday’s game takes on top-seeded Lowell Catholic on Sunday, March 6 in the section quarterfinal.
Two Youth Players Skate to Gold
Watertown residents James O’Connor and Matthew Brown recently participated in the American Cup Squirt ice hockey tournament in Lake Placid, N.Y. Their Boston Stars team was undefeated throughout the tournament and won a gold medal.
The Boston Stars are a select ice hockey program from Somerville, and played the tournament at the Herb Brooks Arena, used in the 1980 Olympics.
