Sometime in January, Boston College hockey coach Jerry York will get his 1,000th win as a college hockey coach.
The man who grew up in Watertown and still calls the town home was featured in a long piece in the Boston Herald this week. He already has the most wins of any college hockey coach, and Boston College remains one of the best teams in the country, currently ranked No. 4.
While he spent years at Clarkson and Bowling Green, York is best known for his time at the Heights, where he also attended college and played hockey.
What is the key to his success? The Herald’s Ron Borges writes that it is his ability to live in the present.
The 70-year-old coach remains sprightly, keeping a full coaching schedule – including heading to Edmonton to scout a player just days before Christmas.
