Most incumbents survived the contentious election season, but the Town Council will have two new members come January.
Challenger Lisa Feltner defeated sitting Councilor Cecilia Lenk for the District B seat in Tuesday’s Watertown Election. Feltner got about two-thirds of the vote. The turnout was 4,585 voters, or 20.48 percent of total voters.
“I am so psyched!” Feltner said outside Town Hall after learning she had won.
She said she did not want to take the results of the preliminary election for granted, in which she topped the ballot.
“I was even meeting new people yesterday,” Feltner said. “I have a great district.”
The other new member will be Michael Dattoli, who came in fourth in the Councilor At-Large race. Incumbent Steve Corbett did not run for re-election. The top vote getter in the At-Large race was Aaron Dushku with 22.93 percent, closely followed by Tony Palomba (22.41 percent). Susan Falkoff’s margin over Dattoli was narrow – 84 votes or .69 percent. The other challenger, Patrice Georgopoulos came in fifth with 15.36 percent.
Mark Sideris was re-elected as Town Council President by defeating Clyde Younger by nearly two-thirds of the vote. Younger also lost to Sideris two years ago, but had higher hopes this time around.
“I was cautiously optimistic from what people were telling me,” Younger said.
Angeline Kounelis survived a close race in District A, where challenger Bob Erickson got 45 percent of the vote.
“It’s been a long election season,” Kounelis said. “I am glad the voters turned out and acknowledged what I do for my East End Community.”
Vincent Piccirilli won District C with 73 percent of the vote over challenger Rossella Mercuri, and District D’s Ken Woodland ran unopposed.
