Folks in and around Watertown have a number of new dining options, with new restaurants and cafes popping up around town.
Perhaps the most visible is Ixtapa Mexican Grill & Cantina, which opened recently at 18 Mt. Auburn Street, right in Watertown Square in the former location of the Verona Restaurant.
The local chain has other locations in Eastern Massachusetts, and features a wide variety of traditional Mexican dishes, along with a many choices of margaritas. The restaurant also prides itself in being friendly to families with children of all ages. Find out more from a previous story on Ixtapa on Watertown News by clicking here.
Nearby, Home Taste just opened at 58 Mt. Auburn Street. The take out Chinese restaurant has a few tables, and occupies the space that was formerly Wonder Cafe.
Home Taste boasts it has authentic Chinese cuisine including hand made noodles and dumplings, spicy Szechuan dishes and what they call Chinese burgers – meat inside a thin bun.
A new cafe is preparing to open at the corner of Main and Lexington streets called Power Cafe. It replaces the short-lived restaurant, Royal. The cafe will be staffed and run entirely by people with physical and/or developmental disabilities, according to the cafe’s website.
The cafe will serve organic free trade coffee, a variety of teas, fresh smoothies and bottled drinks. Those seeking a bite to eat can choose from fresh made muffins, rolls and cookies.
Another eatery in the “coming soon” category Branch Line, which is being opened in the Arsenal on the Charles behind Panera Bread. The restaurant will be run by the owners of Eastern Standard in Kenmore Square.
The restaurant is described as an “urban rotisserie” with a selection of beer and wine. See more in a story previously run on Watertown News by clicking here.
