Jazz vocalist Gabrielle Goodman will bring her sultry voice adventurous improvisations to the Arsenal Center for the Arts in February.

The JMT/Verve recording will perform as part of the Jazz @ the Arsenal series on Feb. 9 at 7:30 p.m. at the Black Box Theater. The concert will feature jazz favorites and songs from her new gospel-inflected CD Spiritual Tapestry.

Goodman will be joined by Yoron Israel (drums), Ron Reid (bass), Jiri Nedoma (piano) and special guest John Baboian (guitar), director of Jazz @ the Arsenal.

During her career, Goodman has performed with such greats as Chaka Khan, Michael Buble and Roberta Flack, who calls Goodman “one of the best singers around,” after the two toured with Miles Davis in the 1980s. Her resume also includes work with Kevin Eubanks, Quincy Jones, Patti Labelle, Nancy Wilson, Mary J. Blige, Armsted Christian, Terri Lyne Carrington, Walter Beasley and many others.

A graduate of the Peabody Conservatory, she has been featured with the Boston Pops, Baltimore Symphony classical, jazz and gospel music.

Among Goodman’s many talents, she is a composer, arranger and educator, serving full time on the Berklee College of Music faculty. Her song, “You Can Make the Story Right,” co-written with Wayne Braithwaite, appears on Chaka Khan’s Grammy Award-winning CD “The Woman I Am” and earned Goodman an ASCAP songwriter’s award.

Goodman’s 5th CD, Spiritual Tapestry, is a celebration of Negro Spirituals coupled with jazz and soul. To listen music from this new CD, click here: www.youtube.com/watch?v=7Cnm6yrxZK8.
