After years without one, Watertown’s Department of Public Works again has a Town Engineer.
On Tuesday, Town Manager Michael Driscoll announced the hiring of Matthew Shuman. He will start his new job as Town Engineer on June 23.
Shuman comes to Watertown after working as assistant town engineer for the Town of Winchester. Before that he worked with the towns of Melrose and Bedford.
Before spending 10 years in the public sector, Shuman worked from 1999-2004 performing engineering services in the private sector. He has a bachelor’s degree in engineering and a master’s degree in civil and environmental engineering, both from Cornell University.
“With Mr. Shuman’s extensive experience and education background, he will be able to greatly assist the Department of Public Works in all aspects of overall operation of the department performing professional engineering work,” Driscoll said.
He will be able to handle a variety of tasks, Driscoll said, including plan review, capital project planning, stormwater management review, inspections, policies, procedures & specifications, technical assistance, GIS technology, assets management and facilities management.
