The Raiders’ spring sports squads took on some of the best in the state this week in state tournaments and state meets.
Track & Field
Several Raiders track and field athletes competed in the Eastern Div. 4 Outdoor Championships at Dufree High School in Fall River.
The Raiders’ boys team won a relay and the pentathlon, and got a pair of second places in individual events. Junior Brian DallaCosta won the pentathlon event with 2609 points. The 4 x 400 meter relay got first place with a time of 3:33.73. Runners were senior James Garbier, sophomore Austin Lin, senior Nick Soares and junior Prosper Lubega.
Lin ran the 400 in the time of 51.10 to get second place, and Garbier got second in the 800 meter run with a time of 1:57.18.
The Raiders finished eighth in the team competition.
The girls also enjoyed some top performances.
Senior Lea Strangio finished fourth in the girls’ 800 meter run with a time of 2:25.26. Junior Keegan Duguay placed fifth in the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 16.12.
The girls 4 x 400 meter relay’s time of 4:21.72 earned fourth place. The team was made up of sophomore Katherine Tolman, junior Tina Touri, junior Molly Day and Strangio.
Watertown finished in 16th place in the team competition.
Some of the top athletes will compete in the All-State Meet in Bridgewater on Saturday, June 7.
Baseball
The Watertown baseball team fell to Bishop Fenwick on Thursday in the preliminary round of the Div. 3 North Section tournament. The Raiders finish with a record of 10-11.
Lacrosse
After an opening round victory, the Watertown boys’ lacrosse team fell 17-1 to top seeded Dover-Sherborn in the quarterfinal of the Div. 3 Central/East Section tournament on Saturday.
Tennis
Watertown’s girls’ and boys’ tennis teams both took on North Reading in the first round of the Div. 3 North Section tournament. The girls fell 4-1 while the boys lost 5-0 on Thursday.
